Claire's pov
Before I could speak someone else did.
A husky voice interrupted.
"Claire is from the Silver Moon Pack," Adrian said as he stood there,
his broad shoulders filling the entrance, his expression as unreadable as ever.
My stomach twisted. I hated lying.
I don't understand why did he lie? Why didn't he tell them I was from the Night Prowler Pack and Michael's daughter.
"The silver moon pack?" Elena murmured.
"That pack has always kept to themselves and is the smallest pack in the continent."
"Yes, it is," Adrian replied, his gaze shifted to me and I nodded, forcing a small smile.
The lie settled heavily in my chest. What was Adrian upto? Why didn't he tell them the truth?
"Claire."
Adrian's voice cut through my thoughts.
I lifted my head, meeting His gaze.
"We need to talk, in my office."
I glanced apologetically at Elena and the girls.
"I'm sorry."
"It's alright," Elena said warmly. "We'll catch up tomorrow."
I gave her a small, genuine smile before following Adrian out of the den.
He walked ahead without another word, his pace brisk enough that I had to hurry to keep up.
__________
When I entered his office I couldn't stop myself from looking around.
The office had a warm, cozy atmosphere.
Soft amber lighting illuminated the room, reflecting off polished wooden furniture. A large dark wooden bookshelve lined the one wall, filled with neatly arranged books and in the corner sat a black leather couch.
Near the floor-to-ceiling windows stood A large mahogany desk while comfortable leather chair sat behind it.
The faint scent of cedarwood, leather, and freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air, creating an atmosphere that was both cozy and sophisticated.
"Nice office," I commented glancing around.
"Thanks," Adrian mumbled out. "My Mate had it decorated," he added, slipping his hands into his pocket.
"Oh," I muttered. Suddenly feeling awkward speaking of his dead mate, the woman who my father murdered.
Adrian cleared his throat and straightened. "So have you told anyone in the pack that you're from the Night Prowler Pack?"
So this is what he wanted to talk about?
"No, I didn't."
"And did you mention to anyone that your father was Michael?"
I exhaled. "No I haven't."
He studied me for a long moment before giving a single nod.
"Good."
I frowned. "Why did you lie to them?"
His expression hardened.
"If my pack discovers your Michael's daughter they wouldn't hesitate to kill you."
"But I wasn't the one who killed your mate."
"They wouldn't care. Your father was the one murdered their luna and they would want to hurt you in return."
I crossed my arms. "I don't understand why did you bring me here? I thought you wanted to make me pay for my father's sins but here we are lying to your pack about who I am."
His jaw tightened. He looked away toward the window overlooking the training grounds.
"That was in the past. I wanted revenge, I wanted to make you suffer for what your father did but then," he paused, turning around meeting my eyes.
"I realized it had nothing to do with you and as for my pack it's better if they don't know who you really are."
I searched his face for anger or cruelty like the day when I first met him but
Instead, I found something else, conflict.
Neither of us spoke and I couldn't stop myself from looking at him. I've never actually looked at him properly before.
He stood over six feet, built of daunting muscles. A handsome face with a sharp nose, square cut jawline, light tan skin tone, jet-black hair cut short but still long enough to run his fingers through and piercing blue eyes.
He looked away, clearing his throat.
"You can leave."
I didn't say anything but turn around and walk out of his study, closing the door softly.
As I walked toward my room my head was filled with a chaotic whirlwind of thoughts. What is Adrian really upto? And why suddenly he changed his mind about killing me?
_____________
The living room was dark except for the pale glow spilling from the screen, painting eerie shadows across the walls. I was seated on the couch watching a movie alone. Nicole was watching with me but she had left a few minutes ago. Nicole had told me the name of the movie but I couldn't seem to remember it but it was a horror movie.
It's actually the first time I was watching TV. Back in the my previous pack Omega's were forbidden that kind of luxury.
"Don't open the door," I whispered at the the main character, clutching the cushion against my chest.
Of course she opened it and stepped outside and a hand shot out from the darkness.
I yelped, nearly launching the cushion across the room.
Before I could catch my breath, a hand landed on my shoulder.
"AH!"
I screamed so loudly my voice echoed through the room. My heart slammed against my ribs as I spun around, stumbling off the couch in the process.
Standing behind me was Elena.
She blinked, her eyes wide with surprise before bursting into laughter.
"Oh my God," she wheezed, clutching her stomach. "You should've seen your face."
I pressed a trembling hand against my chest, trying to slow my racing heartbeat.
"What is wrong with you?" I gasped, glaring at her. "You nearly gave me a heart attack!"
"I'm sorry," she grinned.
"What are you doing here?" I asked. "Weren't you supposed to be at work?"
Elena works at the pack’s infirmary, she's a nurse.
"I took the day off so we both could go shopping."
I blinked.
"Shopping? With me?"
I've never been shopping before in fact I've never stepped out of the pack. The only person who was allowed to leave the pack territory was the head omega. She used to do the shopping. I remember once how I begged her to take me along with her but she complained to Michael.
"Claire!" Elena said, snapping her fingers infront of my face.
"What is it?" I asked.
"You completely zoned out. What were you thinking about?"
I shook my head. "Nothing," I murmured.
"Anyway let's go, I need a dress for the festival."
I raised a brow. "What festival?"
"The blood moon festival."
My brows knitted. "The blood moon festival?"
She exhaled. "Don't tell me you never heard of the blood moon festival?"
"No, I haven't."
"Come along and I'll explain it to you."
I sighed, getting off the couch and followed her.
____________
A few minutes later we stepped outside into the bright afternoon sunshine.
Several black SUVs were parked in front of the pack house.
As Elena and I headed toward one of the vehicles, a voice stopped us.
"Where are you two going?"
We both turned and saw Adrian standing on the porch, dressed in dark blue jeans and a fitted black shirt with the sleeves rolled to his forearms.
His gaze briefly met mine before settling on Elena.
"Shopping," Elena answered cheerfully.
Adrian nodded once then glanced at me.
"I'm coming along," he said as he approached us.
Elena's eyes widened in disbelief. "You're seriously coming shopping?" She asked.
Adrian nodded, opening the driver's seat door.
Elena narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"You've never gone shopping in your life."
Adrian shrugged. "Well things change, he said, his gaze shifting on me once again.
Elena shook her head as she got into the car.
I didn't want to go now that he's going. It's going to be awkward and I don't really want to be anywhere around him not that I hate him or anything. It's just that whenever he's around I feel nervous and I can't think straight.
"Get in Claire!" Elena said pointing at the backseat.
I shook my head. "I don't think I want to come. You two go ahead."
Elena frowned. "Why?"
I shrugged. "I just don't feel-"
"Get inside," Adrian said, his gaze fixated on his phone.
I clenched my fists. Who does he think he is?
Elena pouted. "Please," she begged.
I sighed. "Fine," I mumbled climbing into the SUV.
The engine hummed to life and pulled away from the pack house, I couldn't shake the feeling that this shopping trip was going to be anything but ordinary.
