Chapter Seven

Claire's pov I tightened my fingers around the bucket of water as I wiped the marble floor. The scent of fresh bread fills the kitchen, warm and sweet making my stomach growl. I hadn't eaten anything this morning when I woke up beside Cole which still feels like a dream. It's hard to accept that it's real especially for someone like me. I wasn't expecting to find my mate because I knew he'd reject me the instant we met however I'm grateful the moon goddess thought of me this time. She had given me a monstrous father, wicked siblings and a mother who doesn't give a s**t about me. "You missed a spot omega," Cassandra voice cut through my thoughts. "I didn't see," I muttered, clenching my jaw. "What did you just say?" she hissed. "I said I didn't see," I repeated, my voice low but sharp. "You filthy omega," she spat. The word landed like a slap even before the real one could come. My head jerked to the side as pain bloomed across my cheek. I didn't cry. I learned long ago that crying only makes them laugh and inflict more pain. "Do it properly or else I'll make you wipe the entire house all over again," she sneered and walked away. Relief washed over me seeing her leave. That woman is cunning and doesn't deserve to be called the Luna. A Luna doesn't behave the way she does. A Luna was supposed to care for the pack’s wellbeing irrespective of their ranking but Cassandra only cares about herself. I continued wiping as my thoughts drifted to Cole. I wonder where he is right now and if his thinking of me. “Claire!” A voice cut through the air. I froze when I saw Cole's mother, Evelyn standing in the doorway, dressed in an elegant dress, her eyes cold as winter. Evelyn is nothing like her son. Cole's sweet and gentle whilst his mother is the complete opposite. She's wicked. Evelyn had always hated me and made my life difficult. Whenever I made a mistake or did something that wasn't up to her standard she'd run to the alpha and complained about me. And now I don't know what to do because she's my mates mother. I'm not sure what she'll do when she finds out Cole and I are mates. She'll definitely force him to reject me. But I doubt Cole would ever do that. He cares about me way too much. I've seen it for myself. "What are you looking at?" she snarled, her eyes narrowing. I swallowed, lowering my gaze. “Take breakfast to Amelia's room," she ordered. I nodded, not looking up. "Make fast about it, Amelia hates waiting," she said and walked off. I washed and dried my hands quickly and prepared the tray: fresh fruit, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and a glass of orange juice. As I walked through the grand halls, sunlight poured through the tall windows, casting golden patterns across the marble floors. Dust sparkled in the beams of light, dancing freely. I reached Amelia’s door and balanced the tray with one hand before knocking softly. “Come in,” her voice called, smooth and entitled. I stepped inside and froze. Cole was there, standing by the window and Amelia was seated at her vanity, brushing her long blonde hair. She looked perfect, polished every inch the future Luna. That's right. Amelia's going to be the future luna of this pack. Mason and her aren't fated mates but chosen. Mason and Amelia started dating since high school and Eversince Mason chose her as his mate and future luna. Cole's head lifted, his gaze met mine but then quickly looked away when Amelia spoke. "Are you just going to stand there!" she hissed, glaring at me. I looked away from Cole and entered the room, placing the tray on the table and turned around and walked out of the room, closing the door softly behind me. "That was awkward," I mumbled. ___________________________________________________ The scent of roasted meat, fresh bread, and expensive wine lingered in the air, blending with the faint aroma of beeswax candles. Omega's moved quickly around the room, their footsteps soft against the marble floor. I carried a steaming dish from the kitchen, the rich aroma making the room feel warm and inviting. At the far end of the table, Kimberly lit the remaining candles one by one, their flames flickering gently. I placed a bottle of expensive red wine on the table alongside silver trays overflowing with freshly baked rolls. As soon as the door to the dinning room opened Kim and I as well as the rest of the Omega's stood in a corner. Michael and Cassandra was the first to enter. I noticed Michael seemed to be in a cheerful mood when he entered and it terrified me. I've never seen him in a good mood before. They took their seats at the head of the table and behind them were Mason, Emily, Emma and the rest of the higher ranking wolves. His scent hit me before I saw him enter. He walked in with Ethan, his friend, the future gamma. I wish we didn't have to hide and pretend nothing is going on between us and that we weren't strangers but mates. When everyone settled at the table we moved forward, filling their glasses with wine and served the food. Panic detonated in my chest, exploding through my veins as I stood near Emily. With trembling fingers I reached for her glass and filled it up with wine. From my peripheral vision I noticed her glaring at me. I quickly filled her glass and before I could move to the next one. My chest tightened painfully. Emily placed her hand on Cole's thigh and he didn't do anything but simply look at her and return to the conversation with his sister. And what hurt even more Cole knew I saw that but he did nothing. "I have good news," Michael's voice cut through the air. Conversations stopped midway as everyone's gaze turned to him. "This Saturday we're going to celebrate." "Celebrate what?" Emily asked. Michael grinned. "The downfall of our enemy and that's not the only thing," he said, his gaze flickered to Emma. "It's Emma's birthday and I'm throwing her a party," he added. Emily slammed her fist on the table. "That's not fair!" she yelled, glaring at Michael. "What do you mean it's not fair?" Cassandra gritted out. "Emma deserves this party, she's turning sixteen." "I wasn't talking to you!" Emily snapped. Michael's jaw ticked, his fists clenched tightly as he scowled at Emily. "Apologize to Cassandra now," he demanded. Emily looked at him bewildered. "Are you kidding me? You want me to apologize to this slut." "Emily," Michael warned. Emily didn't bother listening to Michael she kept going on and on and eventually a fight broke out between Emily, Emma and mason. Michael had his warriors separate them and drag Emily to the cell. ____________________________________________________ "That b***h deserved it after what she did to you," Kim whispered as we started to clear out the table. I didn't care about Emily or the tantrum she threw at the table. What worried me was what was going on between her and Cole. I couldn't stop thinking about how she had placed her hand on his thigh and he did absolutely nothing about it. "Hey," Kim nudged me with her elbow. "You okay?" she asked, her voice etched with worry. I gave her a small smile. "I'm good, I was just thinking about something." She smirked knowingly. "So are you going to spend the night with him again tonight?" I exhaled, setting all the glasses on the tray. "I don't know." She frowned. "What do you mean you don't know?" "He hasn't spoken to me since he left his room and he hardly acknowledged me the entire day." Kimberly squeezed my shoulder. "He's probably afraid of anyone finding out so he's trying to keep his distance." "Probably," I muttered reaching for tray but before I could a sharp pain lanced through my chest like a knife, sudden and fierce. I sucked in a shaky breath, my hand flew to my chest as the ache spread through me.
