“You didn’t bring those boys with you, did you,” my mother sobs.
“How else do you think I got here, Mom?” I try to keep the defensiveness I’m feeling out of it, but it’s hard.
“Where are they,” she doesn’t snap at me, mother never does, but she is upset with me. What else was I supposed to do? I was never going to come here alone, and I thought they’d want me here.
