DONATELA
I guess coming to Zion's room was my first time in any of my brother's rooms.
Different posters of Muhammad Ali and other wrestlers filled the walls.
He arranged his rough bed. "You can have a seat."
I forced a smile, sat down and it felt as if I just sat on hot coals.
It was now that I realized Zion was shirtless and had jersey shorts on.
"So..." He pushed the bibles and books on his table off and sat on it, instead of the chair.
I wished I could look away because it felt embarrassing looking at him, but I couldn't look away. I stared at him point blank, his brown skin almost made me wish I wasn't white.
I couldn't help but notice the little steak of sweat on his chest which made me wonder if he was always sweaty?
"Hey..." Zion smiled. "You're spacing out?"
I snapped out quickly. "No... I wasn't..."
"It's fine." He looked down. "I understand you're wondering why my skin was different."
My lips formed a thin lie. I never even thought of that.
"Our mum is black." He flashed his handsome set of teeth. "I took after her."
"Oh..." I smiled simply. Who said I wanted to know what their mother looks like.
The atmosphere got tense again. But thankfully, Zion seemed to be talkative.
He began the topic on the wrestler's poster in his room, the rain still drizzling as sleep somehow went away.
As he spoke, the only thing I could think of was — the feel of his skin.
This is crazy, Dona! Stop! But I couldn't.
My n*****s throbbed, and I had to lock my thigh so the clenching of my p***y would stop.
Holy Jesus! Why am I doing this again!?
Zion moved to another poster, raised his hand to show his muscles.
The sight of that was like a petrol to the already burning inferno of want and lust.
I held myself, steadied like a soldier.
Not now.
Reign had claimed me, Knight had eaten me out, and Cahiah called me a w***e. No. Not Zion again.
This was my last wager, if I lose it...
"Hey, Little Saint!" His voice snapped me back. "What happened? You okay?"
My body moved on impulse. "No. I'm not."
Fuck! Why do I say that?
"What happened?" Zion was alerted. "You.."
"Yes." My lips moved again on impulse. "I want you, Zion."
He stopped midair. Now this was the end!
I had let Donatela take me on and show the w***e side of me.
Damnit! Jesus this is the end!
I wanted to stand up, but he reached out and pinned me down. I swallowed as his lips came closer.
Did he take the bait?
Maybe he did. So I closed my eyes. If this is what Fate wanted, I would go with the flow.
The pull of the mate bond was tight. The heat of his body wrapped me like second skin, my n*****s hardened, throbbed and waited for just a touch.
Just a kiss or maybe....
"Did Cahiah bully you again?"
My eyes snapped open and all the want and desire faded into nothingness.
What an i***t!
He thought I was thinking about bullying?
I leaned back immediately, so he could also lean away. Then I stared into his deep brown eyes. "What did you think I'm talking about, Father?"
"You and Cahiah." He moved back to the table. "Tell me, did he say anything to you?"
Fuck it!
Zion is slow witted!
I swallowed the pain of my unmet need. Thank goodness. At least he's better than Cahiah.
"He came to my room drenched, and we had an argument...."
"Argument that requires you to run out of your room nakedly?" He scoffed. "I know it. He's always a jerk"
I threw my hands over my body as if that would erase what he had already seen. "He said something..."
"It's fine." Zion bit his lips. "Should I help you to your room?"
Help me to my room without asking for it just like I never asked him about his skin or ask about the posters?
For Christ sake these brothers are something else!
If I wasn't a stepsister, I would almost believe they're not from the same father.
Reign— obsessive. Knight — childish and too simple. Cahiah — the bone of contention and now him! Slow witted!
I could hardly contain my anger.
"But...you, I didn't say I needed help. I just..."
Zion stopped, his face changed. "I see beyond what you can see, stepsister. I know everything."
My shoulders dropped. How can a man be this handsome and breathtaking yet.... To understand me clearly is a problem?
"What did you know?"
My mind raced with panic as Zion walked to the window, opened it slightly so the sizzle of the rain and its scent would flow in.
"Maybe I want to do something dangerous right now."
"What?"
He turned abruptly to the door, and walked out as if in trance.
I rushed to my feet, ran after him. "What are you going to do?"
Zion didn't stop until he was at Cahiah's door.
My heart was beating wildly. I didn't think before touching him. "Father Zion. What are you planning to do..."
"That bastard has to pay for making my mate cry!" After that was a shriek and Cahiah's door opened.
A loose towel wrapped around his groin, his hairy chest came to view.
I swallowed hard. This is not the time to drool!
"What's happening Z?"
"Don't fuckin ask me what happened!" Zion entered with force and threw a punch to Cahiah's face.
"Jesus!" Cahiah gasped, looked at me with horror. "What did you tell him?"
I was equally shocked. "He didn't make me cry, Father Zion."
"I know pain when I see one." Zion was very sure of himself. "I heard everything you two talked about at the Narthex and I know when he called your mother names. Let me teach him a lesson."
Cahiah pushed him off, tried to punch him back, but Zion was stronger.
They looked at each other like sworn enemies.
Zion chose his words carefully as he declared. "You're turning into a monster, Cah. And I ask your brother, I will not watch you ruin yourself."
I felt drawn to Zion. The sound of the words aren't just powerful but connective.
He also realized that Cahiah was going berserk...
"You don't see what I see, Z." Cahiah replied in a broken tone. Almost not like the arrogant Cahiah that declares a war against me. "Punch me all you want. But I will never accept this serpent."
Zion pushed him so he fell on the bed. "Fine. But just know that I've also turned against you now and will stop at nothing to see you back to your senses."
Cahiah said nothing. But the glare he gave me was almost murderous. Zion pulled me with him as he left.
This should feel refreshing that someone spoke for me and also see the monster I saw in Cahiah.
But why do I feel like I just made a terrible mistake or committed a bigger sin?
