Chapter 13

MAGDALENE'S POV It almost felt as if my soul left my body for a second when the new guy said this. "What did you just say?" He pulled August. "Come and see for yourself." For a second, no one reacted after they left, but like a storm, April and June sprang up, screamed, and ran out. I got up after them too, my heart racing madly; sweat covered me. Outside, the September air was damp with rain that would not fall. Nothing seems right, but merely looking at it, nothing has changed. "Where is he?" August's tone was surprisingly chilly and dark. "Where is my brother?" The latter fearsomely pointed to the grey Rolls-Royce July always takes. We moved towards it, and when August pulled the door, July fell out, the seatbelt off. "July!" June rushed there, pushing August aside. April ran to the informant. "What did you do to him? How did you know he was dead?" "I saw him enter the car but didn't drive out for a long time. I swear, I didn't do anything. I decided to check up on him, and his heart had stopped. " Everyone was stupefied. Was July dead for real? If it were true, then why, and how? "Let's take him to the hospital." April and June managed to bring him out, and before I could know it, they were in the limo we took to school, driving out, not waiting for anyone. I stood like a statue; if he were really dead, what would happen to me? "I told you." August moved to me with the darkest tone I'd ever heard. "I said the mate bond came to destroy; you all don't believe me." His face glowed under the dim night sky. "You have caused enough harm; can you come with me to tell them to reject you?" My whole body began to shake, and the sky darkened, not with night but with an impending storm that was now windy. "Talk to me!" August roared, attempting to reach me, but the informant stopped him. "August? No." "No egg. She has already done what she came into our house to do; it's time she f*****g leaves." Was I really the cause of what happened to July? Thinking about it, maybe he was right. What is the use of being mates with the people I can't publicly call my men? For how long will I push mum out? She would know these eventually; perhaps rejecting the bond is the best option now. I looked at August. "Fine, I will come with you to reject them, but in return, you must make sure that none of all these were leaked at school or to my mom." He didn't say anything along with the other guy; we piled into the car towards the pack hospital. If July survives, can the person's mat bond still stay unsnapped? •••• "He fainted from stress," the doctor said, bowing. "He's also not feeding well, and his wolf has been cooped up inside him for too long." June heaved a long sigh. "Ha. Thank goodness." "Now, can the innocent mate bond be spared from your jargons?"April rolled his eyes at August. The doctor left us; I know it would be war between them now. August slowly leaned away from the wall. "Mate bond or not, I'm not accepting any mate with you three. And a day is coming; something like this would happen again, and I would remind you." He walked away. Instinctively, I ran after him. Outside the hospital, August stopped with gritted teeth. "Why are you following me now?" "What is it that you're not telling me, August?" He didn't move, his back still against me, shoulders broad. The sky opened up abruptly, and the blast of the rain hit me, but I didn't move since August also stood there. Only Egg ran to the car pack shed. "There's a prophecy that said one of us would die if we shared the same profession or woman," he confessed in a broken tone. Thunder reported violently. A prophecy. I felt hot even under the heat downpour. "Then... why did they still choose me?" I cried out. "Why didn't they reject me? Why only you?" He turned around this time; this wasn't the August I know. His eyes were glowing blue, flashing human and wolf at the same time. The rain poured heavily like the skies were angry. "Let's get out of here," I said, trying to leave, but he closed the distance between us and stopped me. "If anything happens to any of my brothers." His tone sounded darker. "I shall hold you accountable, and I will chase you down to hell if I have to." "Wh... What are you trying to say?" It was only a matter of minutes before I was up in his arms, his mouth against my neck, and mine on the flashing, angry thunder. "August..." "I will mark you first so you are mine first." That was all before the pain spread through my blood vessels, down to my lungs, causing air to be knocked out of me. The pain shot again, this time through my other neck—He was marking me! "A...ugust!" I cried alarmingly, but he didn't stop; it was until I couldn't feel the pain anymore but the feel of his tongue on my skin that he stopped. The rain raged on like there was a battle going on in hell. August moved away from me after this and didn't stop under the car park but took Egzon's hand and left in the car we came with. I stood there, still shocked, too stunned to react. I'm now carrying a mark that lines me to my stepbrother, and not just a stepbrother but August! The most annoying one. As the rain teared on madly, I felt I wasn't alone anymore. Not by any means, but I felt something else was living in my mind. 'He marked us,' I heard in my head like a thought. 'August is our father mate first, and the others are not as relevant, and he was' I staggered back. "My...my wolf!?" 'Yes, Your Wolf, I'm Cate.'
