Chapter 6

924 Words
MAGDALENE’S POV I was surprised I could do that. “M..Marg did you just….” August’s voice cracked like his ego. “You pathetic stepsister just slapped me in my father’s house?” He was angry to the extent that he almost raised his hand. June got up this time, eyes more sterner than I’d ever seen him to be. “Stop it now, August. She slapped you so what?” August almost burst into sobs that I knew wasn’t because of the slap. The courage I grew to slap him slowly died down… “I… I’m sorry I didn’t know…” June wasn’t listening. “You’ve done nothing to be sorry for, Lene. This punk needs someone to set his arrogant brain right!” “I shall remind you of this day brothers” August swore angrily before leaving. My hand was shaking in panic — what have I done… ‘What has come over you, Magdalene!’ Letting my body move on its own, I fell to the sofa, imagining that scene again. ‘Did I just defend my mom?’ ‘Did I just….’ “But why was he pinning on what Dad said?” April pulled me out of my delusion. “Did dad ever tell us anything about marking mates and all?” June’s eyes met mine, locked together as if he was trying to see what August saw. I felt tiny and weak, the fluster made me jump to my feet quickly. “I… I have something to do. You guys enjoy dinner without me” My legs shook even though I got up quickly. Crossing the seat beside July, I tripped and almost landed on my face but he pulled me back. “J…July?” He’d been quiet all along. How should I have even forgotten that he’s the start of all these? ‘Stopp!!’ I warned myself but no. Heat rose to my face before I could stop it. July reached out with a big smile. “You’re blushing?” ‘f**k it!!’ my lips tightened up in nervousness.. “B…Blushing? No I wasn’t. Maybe because it’s too hot in here and…” I stopped; their piercing gazes are enough to dig a hole in my body. “I’m sorry” I admitted finally, embarrassment killing me faster than AIDS. “I was just trying to correct August” With one powerful swing, July got me in his arms, my breath seized and I was barely surviving — palpitations! I’d imagined this for days! ‘Stop it, Marg. Don’t let them know’ I convinced myself and fixed a timid smile. “C..can we have dinner now? I’m starving” June and April had already moved toward the dining, and July only chuckled. “Would you love to have me for dinner?” My stomach turned in anxiety, it took a great deal to get out of his grip. “We shouldn’t… go too far” “Too far?” he leaned closer to my hair, hot breath fanning me. “We’re not close to being far, Magdalene. We just started” Then his hand slowly tickled my breasts. “I love these, can’t wait to grope them again” Before I could react, he was in the dining room, looking at me with that annoying smirk. “Aren’t you eating?” June called out and I snapped back to reality. ‘Focus, Marg. Focus!!’ ••••• I don’t think I was sane anymore. July’s seductive threat before dinner, April’s gentle kiss after dinner — Lord Jesus, I’m losing my damn mind! “What if it’s all fake?” No. I will just…. “Ringggg” I jumped up at the sound of that — I know it. No one else calls me except Mum. “Hey…” her bubbly voice resounded before I could even say ‘Hello’ “How’s your vacation, Mum?” Music blared from the background which suggested she was at a party. “Mum?” “Oh yes….” She was silent again. “What’s up with your brothers? Moses got a call that they fought tonight” My heart seized — Alpha Moses knew they fought? What if… My whole body tensed up like I was struck by thunder. “M…Mum, who called him, I didn’t know they fought and I was in my room all day after I came back…” She was talking to someone else again even though she called me “Whatever. But don’t get into trouble, Darlene. I can’t risk a divorce from Moses because of you, okay?” I ended the call without any answer. His sons fighting is another issue, will the Alpha still be okay with Mum if he knows about the mate bond between his son and me? Fear gripped my heart even though I hasn’t happened yet. “What do I do, mum?” I sat there like a lost puppy, heart racing like an F1 until knock snapped me out of my trance. “Who’s there?” No answer. Could it be a maid? Or one of the brothers? Time reads 11:30 pm… Who could be knocking? Dropping the phone, I fastened the duvet to cover me then moved to open the door. “Who’s…” Upon opening the door, who I saw made me gasp. He stood there, shivering, drenched, battered, but not frowning or looking at me with disdain — something more than that was in those eyes…. “Can…Can you help me get warmer, Mate?”
