The slap was enough to make Irene fall, hitting her sides. Struggling to her feet, one hand on her red and aching cheek, she felt blood drip from her split lip, her other hand on her sides that had also started to bleed from a possible wound, Irene glared at Silas, "you're a bastard!" She screamed.
That did it. Launching towards her, Silas grabbed her neck, squeezing it to see her struggle and choke.
"How dare you!" He yelled, tightening his grip. Not able to take it anymore, Irene shifted wolf and used her paw to scratch his hand that was choking her, making him loosen his grip and wince in pain.
Angry beyond reasoning, Silas shifted wolf and with his canines gripped Irene's neck, watching her whimper as blood dripped from the wound.
"Papa? Mama?" A little voice called and both of them turned to see Sabrina, dread in her eyes as she gripped the sides of her dress.
Silas shifted back to human first, after removing his canines from around Irene's neck and walking towards his daughter.
"Come, Sabrina," he called, "you should be resting"
Sabrina took a step backward and received a frown from her father, there was blood dripping from his mouth down to his white shirt.
"What's going on?" Her voice was barely audible.
"Nothing, my dear" Silas said, not bothering to clean the blood off his face, instead spitting it out and murmuring "If I were a vamp, I would have enjoyed that"
Sabrina's eyes traveled from her father's bloody face to the half conscious body of her mother, "Mama?" She called, running towards her mother.
Bending down, she picked the bloody hands of her mother, watching as Irene coughed up a mouthful of blood. "Mama! are you okay? Mama you're hurt!"
Irene wished she could tell Sabrina she was okay but Silas must have punctured her voice box and as she tried to speak, blood escaped from her wound and from her mouth.
Silas ran his hand through his head as he watched in annoyance, the scene before him. He saw the teary face of Sabrina's,the fear in her eyes as she looked at him, "Papa, help her!"
Gritting his teeth, Silas walked to the sink and took a rag, tossing it to Irene who quickly wrapped it around her bleeding neck, before pushing her self up to sit on the floor, managing a smile at Sabrina.
"Mama, papa..." Sabrina burst Into tears as Irene hugged her. The little one was so confused, what just happened, what was happening? She thought her parents where in love, she thought everyone was happy....so why were they fighting? Why was her father trying to...to kill her mother?
As she sat there crying, she felt her mother's arm around her, and she heard the approaching footsteps of her father, "come, Sabrina" he said but she shook her head.
"But Mama—"
"Come!" Silas said as he pulled her up by her arm, dragging her to him but Irene held her other hand, shaking her head furiously as if to warn Sabrina not to go with her psycho father.
Using the sole of his foot, he kicked Irene away making her fall on her back, groaning in pain.
"Mama!" Sabrina wriggled her arm from Silas's grip and went to help her mother who could now barely keep her self from coughing up blood. "Papa, what are you doing! Why did you do that? Why did you kick Mama?" Sabrina yelled as she launched herself at her father pulling him by his shirt.
Silas, who was already tired of the whole drama, pulled Sabrina to him and pressed a finger at the back of her neck turning her immediately unconscious.
"As por you," he said turning to Irene as he heaved his unconscious daughter up his shoulders. "You are lucky to be alive, but I won't let you go scott free, you shall learn to keep that mouth shut!" he went towards her, grabbing her by her hair, as she struggled and thrashed in pain as he dragged her out of the room, knowing she won't shift wolf to attack him again, because of the amount of pain she was currently in.
He dragged her to the shed at the back of the house and threw her in there, binding her hands.
"This is where you belong, you witch! and just so you know, me and you are through, from henceforth you are no longer my wife, mate or the mother of my daughter.
"W...why?" Irene managed to say, glad that her voice box was not damaged permanently. "What have I ever done to you, Silas?"
"Why?" Silas asked and just then something happened to him, a flash of green light passed through his grey eyes and for a second, Irene thought she saw a confused expression on Silas's face as he looked around as if wondering what he was doing there and why his wife was tied and was in a bloody mess. But it was only for a second because his eyes glared back at her again and he left without another word.
Sabrina woke up sometime around midnight to hear some faint sound coming from the sitting room, it sounded like two people where having a conversation. Walking out of her room, down the corridor to the living room, she caught the silhouette of two people, there were talking and laughing.
"You did good, my love" a female voice drawled and Sabrina heard her father chuckle. The little girl strained her eyes to see the woman that stood next to her father, she was tall and slender, short black hair, black eyes and a manipulative smile.
"Just like you wanted, my queen," her father responded, wrapping his hands around the woman's waist, "she's finally out of our lives"
The woman leaned in and kissed him before pulling back with a smile, "finally, we can be together at last, just you, me and Giselle"
A smile broke out of Silas's lips before his ears picked a sound, turning his head, he saw the peeking figure of his daughter, "come, Sabrina" he said, calling her like he did before, making the little girl gulp, Sabrina looked hard at her father to see that he had cleaned himself up, there were also no traces of blood in the room.
The woman who was standing next to him, folded her arms and looked at Sabrina with a smirk, "Come closer, little one"
Sabrina gulped again as she walked gingerly towards the woman that looked very different from every other woman she had ever seen, the light from the lamps on the wall fell on her, making her look nothing less to an evil witch, the kind she's heard about in the stories her mother use to tell her. Her heart ached when she remembered about her mother, where was she and who was this woman?
"Where's Mama?" She asked, receiving an annoyed look from the woman.
"Your—"
"Your 'Mama'," the woman began, interrupting Silas who stayed quiet, "is locked away"
Sabrina's brows furrowed as she looked at the woman in front of her, "Why?"
"Because she is a bad woman"
"That's not true!" Sabrina said, "my Mama is the best woman there ever was, you're the one that's bad! Give me back my Mama!"
"Silas, hold your pup!" The woman said with a frown.
"Sabrina, apologize for your tone" Silas said, crossing his arm over his chest.
"No!" Sabrina said immediately, "I won't apologize to this mean lady!"
"Sabrina!" Her father thundered, "Is that anyway to talk to your new mother?"
She couldn't have heard right, "My new mother?" The seven year old, repeated, confused.
"Yes, Sabbie," Silas said before looking at the woman with a smile before linking his hands with her then to look back at Sabrina, "Lucia is going to be your new mother and my new wife"
Sabrina blinked, "But Mama's your wife—"
"Not anymore" the woman named Lucia, said before squatting in front of her to look into her green eyes with her black ones, "Don't worry Sabrina, we are all going to be one big family, infact you'll even get a new sister...my daughter, Giselle"
Even if Sabrina had always wished for a sibling, preferably a sister, she definitely wouldn't want one from this woman.
"What about my mama?"
Lucia smiled, "your mother is a bad woman, she won't stay with us, she's evil and doesn't love you or your father. Right, Silas?"
Sabrina saw her father nod his head with a smile plastered on his face.
"But you love Mama, you always said so" Sabrina frowned, drops of tears falling from her eyes, "You love Mama"
"Not, anymore!" Lucia snapped.
The next thing that happened was something out of the blue, feeling understandable anger and rage, Sabrina started to feel strange, she saw light spiral clouds engulf her and the next second she found herself on her knees, but looking at her body she found out she wasn't squatting or kneeling but actually standing on her paws—she had actually shifted wolf.
"What the..." Lucia exaclaimed before Sabrina immediately jumped on her, biting her with her little but sharp canines, scratching her with her paws."Ahhh! Silas, get her off me!"
Silas went to grab Sabrina, he was excited and annoyed at the same time; excited that his little girl had finally learned how to shift and annoyed that she was attacking Lucia.
"Sabrina, stop it!" he thundered, finally catching her by her tail for her to immediately let go.
"Look at what she's done to me" Lucia yelled, turning so Silas could see her torn dress and bleeding arm. "Look!"
"I'm so sorry, Lucia" Silas apologized before glaring at Sabrina who was hanging upside down by her tail. "I'll take her to her room—"
"No," Lucia snapped as she glared at Sabrina, "I want her thrown in with her Mother, she deserves it"
"But, Lucia—"
"I said throw her in with her mother!" Her eyes glowed from black to green which Sabrina noticed, she also noticed how Lucia touched the strange necklace that was on her neck before talking to her father.
Almost immediately, Silas went out the room, holding Sabrina by her tail and taking her to the back of the house and stood in front of the shed, wrenching the door open, he tossed Sabrina inside before locking the door.
"S... Sabbie?" Irene called even with the pain in her throat, her eyes looked at the little wolf that walked towards her, "Sabrina, y...yo..you...shifted!" She smiled.
Sabrina made her way to her mother, whimpering satisfyingly as her mother, even with her hands bounded, ran her fingers through the fur on her head, it sooth her to the extent that she didn't know when she shifted back.
"Mama.." her voice came out in a whisper.
"Shh.." Irene brought her head to her lap as she tried her best to calm her by running her fingers through her hair and wiping away her tears, kissing her cheek and keeping her head up to avoid Sabrina from making contact with the wound on her neck, "it's okay, my darling, it's okay"
"Papa," Sabrina sniffled, "What's wrong with him?" He brought a strange lady in the house, mama"
"Strange lady?" Irene asked.
"Yes, he said she's my new Mama, what's he talking about? What's going on?" Sabrina asked in between hiccups and tears.
Irene pulled Sabrina up to look at her face, "Sabrina, that woman...I think she's doing something to your father" she said, thankful that her neck was gradually healing.
"Doing, what?"
Irene sighed. She didn't know, but she was sure something wasn't right here, Silas sudden change was not normal. She wished she could run to the council and report this. Irene sighed, she wished she had reported it earlier when he had started hitting her.
"Look at me, Sabrina," Irene said, "promise me you will never give up, promise me that whatever happens, you will survive"
Sabrina blinked, "Mama what are you talking about? I won't give up because I'll have you with me—"
"No" Irene shook her head as tears poured down her cheeks, "I'm not going to be...be with you, Sabrina."
If it was before, Irene would have tried to convince herself that Silas would never take her life, he was probably going through a phase, he would never leave Sabrina without a Mother...
But that was before and right now, considering everything that just happened, Irene was so sure that she didn't have long to live—Silas was really going to kill her, this time.
"Mama, what are you talking about?" Sabrina eyes were red from all the crying, "Mama—"
"My beautiful wolf, my darling. You have to be strong for me, you have to survive, something very bad has happened to your father, something bad has started happening to the world and I can feel it, and right now even if we can't save your father, we can save everyone"
Sabrina didn't understand, she didn't want to understand, at just seven now does her mother expect her to cope without her, especially with her father that had suddenly turned evil. "Mama, I won't leave you"
"But I will leave you, " Irene gave a sad smile, "You have to understand, Sabrina, there's an evil lurking and you will have to escape it when I can't"
Seeing her not say a word, Irene continued, "Soon, I will be dead. Your father or his mistress will kill me—"
"No!" Sabrina said in anger.
"Yes, and there's nothing I can do, your life is about to change from this point my darling. You will have to be strong and brave, you will have to avenge me and every other people who will soon suffer from the evil that has silently been unleashed"
Sabrina was yet to understand her mother's last words, 'people who will soon suffer from the evil that has silently been unleashed', she didn't understand what does words meant but what she did understand was that soon, her Mama will be gone forever.
"My only regret, will be not seeing you on your wedding day, one-day, watching as you walk down the aisle with that special someone. You're a big girl now, look you've already shifted wolf all by your self, you will grow up to be a wonderful woman, Sabrina Howler" Irene said kissing her forehead, as Sabrina lay back on her lap, suddenly quiet and painfully accepting what was to happen.
A few hours later, the door of the shed opened and the woman Sabrina met before walked in—Lucia.
"Hello Lady Irene, Sabrina" the woman said with a smirk. "Did you both sleep well?"
"Lucia, so it was you that Sabbie told me about" Irene scoffed as her eyes narrowed at the smirking woman. Sabrina who was asleep stretched on the cold floor.
"So you still remember me, how sweet"
'How could she not?' Irene thought, this was a woman from her past, someone she loathe and someone who was here to destroy her.
"What are you doing, here?"
Lucia smiled, "what does it look like?" Irene frowned, "you know exactly what I'm doing here, Irene"
Irene groaned in anger, "you and your sisters are going to suffer for this, you will all fail"
Lucia laughed as she squatted in front of Irene, pulling Sabrina up with her.
"Let her go!"
Lucia laughed again, hurling Sabrina with her to the door, "How does it feel, Irene? To be the person in chains?" she smiled, pulling up her red dress and stepping out of the shed, Sabrina in her grip.
