Silver and Iron

POV: Connor I had asked my daughter to trust me for a few more hours and promised to not skip over any questions she might have. Her golden eyes had searched my face worriedly. Little did she know flashes of green, blue, and black shone through her golden eyes. Goddess, what is this? I know she was frustrated but she grabbed her bookbag and opened the car door. She flounced around to my open window. Flashing a brilliant smile, she leaned in and pecked my cheek. I watched my beautiful child, my pup walk towards the stone building where she'd spent every day for the past eighteen years. I looked at the iron fence that surrounded the school. My eyes roamed the grounds. I spotted all the precautions put in place to control my baby girl. Iron and silver railings, statues, and barred windows give the appearance of a normal campus. The truth is far more complicated. "What have I done?" I cry out to the goddess. "Faeries are susceptible to iron, Connor. Once she changes, her wolf will guide her. The fae have been gathering for weeks. Once her fae side reveals itself, her faery will protect her. No matter which of the six reveals itself, the guid folk have lined up to help" "Thank you Moon Goddess." I wipe my eyes as I see Hope turn towards me. I quickly mindlink Tim. "I will take care of her." he telegraphs back. Tim was the future Alpha of our pack. I know I should have addressed him as Alpha but my daughter's well-being took over my entire mind. Just knowing that Tim is looking out for her calmed me. I pulled out of the parking lot and headed to the pack house. High ranking wolves normally dwell in the pack house. It's designed to keep everyone safe but because of the decision we made regarding Hope, it wasn't an option for my family. During the school day and work hours, I spent my time at my office in the pack house. Dana normally came over after getting the children off to school. It wasn't the best scenario but we've made it work for nearly 18 years. I am the current Beta of Midnight Moons pack. Tim's father and my best friend is the current Alpha. Xavier Harper and I have been friends since my parents joined Midnight Moons decades back. Hell Xavier and I were just pups when we left Scotland and came to America. Tim's mindlink shook me from my reverie. "Beta Springs, there's something going on with Hope. She's uh...acting strangely." "What's wrong Tim? I gripped the steering wheel so tightly I thought it would snap off. I wasn't prepared for what he said next. "She's trying to.... Beta I think she's trying to mate"... the young Alpha stammered. If not for the fact this was my daughter, this situation might have been funny. "What do you mean trying to mate?" growled my wolf Ewing. "My pup is not even of age, nor does she have a wolf. I will rip you to shreds if you're pulling me leg." I could feel my wolf's rage and desire to take control. I fought to contain him so we could hear what Tim had to say. "She started kissing me in a way that left no mystery about what she wanted. Hope and I haven't...we..uh agreed to wait until her birthday. I know she's my mate, but I wanted her to be sure about me. I love your daughter sir and I know this....This isn't Hope. She's also babbling about a voice. She shouldn't be hearing her wolf yet." Tim's mindlink snapped shut. I quickly mindlink Xavier to let him know I was headed home. He knew what the impending birthday meant for Hope as a wolf but he had no idea what the fae transformation would be like. I filled him in on my conversation with Tim. "Come to the pack house when you guys finish talking. All of you." he commanded via mindlink. I knew that was purposeful. By commanding me, he took control of the situation, forcing me to bring my family to the pack house. "Yes Alpha." "Connor old friend, that wasn't an Alpha command." Xavier chuckled. "That's me trying to ensure everyone's safety. My son, your daughter....let's just say I want to keep our pups as pups just a little bit longer. I will see you when you get here." He closed the mindlink. I asked her to trust me, but how could she? By trying to keep her safe, we may have crippled her ability to cope. Pups learn to be wolves by watching other wolves. She's going to be the Luna of this pack one day. She's not prepared to help Tim run the pack because she hasn't been trained. High ranking wolves undergo additional training for their roles. I thought about linking Dana, but I wanted a few more minutes of solitude. Something was niggling in my brain and it wasn't Ewing. Something the Moon Goddess alluded to. I couldn't put my finger on what troubled me. "Hope will be fine. The prophecy speaks of her ..." Ewing begins. "She will be equipped with everything she needs. Remember that Moon Goddess chose HER. She won't leave her alone with this." "You're right, Ewing. The Moon Goddess prepares her children but.. " "No buts, Connor. Hope will walk into her destiny. And we will be there to help her." I turned into my neighborhood. Hope will be home soon. I need to prepare for her arrival. I just prayed the Moon Goddess would give me guidance.
