Maya woke up to snowflakes gently falling outside her window,
casting a serene silence over Willow Creek.
Her phone buzzed – a text from Alessandro:
"Good morning, Maya. Photographer's portfolio coming
via email. –A"
She smiled at his formal yet charming message.
As she got ready for work, Maya's younger brother, Max,
walked into the kitchen, rubbing sleepy eyes.
"Hey, sis. What's with the happy face?
Got a crush on someone?"
Maya playfully rolled her eyes.
"Just a new wedding client, Max.
Alessandro De Luca – his sister's getting married
at the resort."
Max's eyes widened.
"De Luca? Isn't he, like, mafia or something?"
Maya poured herself coffee.
"Rumors, Max. Besides, I can handle myself."
Max shrugged.
"If you say so... Just be careful, okay?
You're all I've got left."
Maya's heart swelled with love for her brother.
Their parents had passed away when Max was just 10 –
Maya had raised him on her own, working multiple jobs
to provide for him.
Now, at 25, Maya had finally built a stable life
for them both – a life she was determined to protect.
At work, Maya dove into wedding planning mode,
coordinating with vendors and resort staff.
Alessandro's email arrived – the photographer's portfolio
was stunning. She replied immediately:
"Love the photographer's work!
Approved. –Maya"
He responded within minutes:
"Glad you like him. Shall we meet today
to discuss wedding attire and flowers? –A"
Maya agreed, and they met in the resort's garden room
at 2 pm.
Alessandro looked dashing in his tailored suit,
hair perfectly messy as always.
Maya wore a bright yellow dress, hair down –
feeling cheerful and confident.
Their meeting lasted two hours, with Maya taking
detailed notes on Isabella's vision:
- Ivory wedding gown with lace details
- Bridesmaids in soft blush pink dresses
- Floral arrangements featuring white roses
and baby's breath
- Alessandro as best man, wearing tailored
black tuxedo
As they concluded their meeting, Alessandro walked
Maya back to her office.
They strolled through the resort's elegant lobby,
admiring the towering Christmas tree and
garland-draped staircase.
Alessandro turned to Maya.
"You're doing an excellent job, Maya.
My sister trusts you completely – I'm glad she chose you."
Maya smiled warmly.
"Thank you, Alessandro. That means a lot coming from you.
I'll ensure Isabella's wedding day is perfect."
Their eyes met, and Maya felt that spark again –
like fireworks exploding in her chest.
Suddenly, Alessandro's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen,
expression turning grim.
"Excuse me, Maya. Business call.
I'll be in touch soon about wedding details."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Maya
feeling curious and slightly disappointed.
The rest of the day flew by in a whirlwind of wedding
details and Christmas preparations.
As Maya walked home through snowy streets,
she noticed a black car following her...
At first, she thought it was just her imagination –
but the car turned whenever she did, keeping pace behind her.
Maya quickened her steps, heart racing.
She crossed the street, dodging pedestrians and snowbanks –
the car did the same.
Panic set in as she realized someone was indeed
following her. Maya pulled out her phone, dialing 911...
But then she saw the car door open –
Alessandro stepped out, looking relieved.
Maya hung up the call, approaching him cautiously.
"Alessandro? What are you doing? You scared me half to death!"
He closed the distance between them, voice low and urgent.
"Maya, I need to talk to you about something.
Can we go somewhere private?
Maya hesitated, unsure if she should trust him.
But those piercing blue eyes put her at ease –
she nodded slowly.
Alessandro led her to his car, opening the passenger door.
Maya slid in, feeling luxurious leather envelop her.
He got in beside her, starting the engine for warmth.
"What's going on, Alessandro?
You're scaring me – is everything okay with the wedding?"
Alessandro turned to face her, expression serious.
"The wedding's fine, Maya. This is about me...
and my family.
You've probably heard rumors – whispers of mafia ties?"
Maya nodded slowly, her heart racing.
"I've heard rumors... but I don't believe them."
Alessandro smiled slightly.
"I appreciate that. Truth is, Maya...
my father was involved with some shady people.
But I've been trying to legitimize our family business –
go straight, you know?"
Maya's eyes locked onto his.
"But someone's not letting you?"
Alessandro nodded grimly.
"One of Dad's old associates – Victor Conti –
wants me to take over his... 'business interests.'
But I refused. Now he's threatening my family –
Isabella, my mom... everyone I care about."
Maya's mind reeled – mafia wars, threats, danger lurking...
She reached out, touching Alessandro's arm instinctively.
"We'll protect them – the police, FBI... someone will help!"
Alessandro shook his head.
"Conti has cops on his payroll, Maya.
We can't trust law enforcement – at least, not yet.
That's why I'm telling you this...
I need your help in keeping my family safe during
the wedding. Conti won't dare attack us publicly,
but we still need eyes and ears everywhere."
Maya felt like she was living in a movie –
a mafia thriller unfolding before her eyes.
Yet she trusted Alessandro, wanted to help him.
"What do you need me to do?"
Alessandro smiled gratefully.
"Just be aware of your surroundings –
report anything suspicious to me or my head of security,
Marco. And... keep this conversation between us, okay?
Maya nodded solemnly.
"I won't breathe a word.
But what about Sophia – she's Isabella's maid of honor...
shouldn't she know too?"
Alessandro thought for a moment.
"Not yet – Sophia's too close to my sister.
If Conti suspects we're onto him, he'll use that against us.
For now, let's keep this between you, me, and Marco."
Maya nodded again, feeling a secret bond form
between her and Alessandro.
As they talked, snowflakes continued falling gently
outside – a serene contrast to the danger lurking nearby.
Suddenly, Alessandro's phone buzzed again.
He glanced at the screen, expression turning cold.
"Conti. I need to take this – stay here, Maya."
He stepped out of the car, voice low and even as he spoke...
Maya watched him, heart racing with worry –
what was Conti saying to Alessandro?
...him speak to Conti, Maya's mind raced with thoughts –
fears for Alessandro's safety, worries about the wedding,
and questions about Conti's true intentions.
After what felt like an eternity, Alessandro returned
to the car, expression grim.
Maya waited anxiously for him to speak.
Finally, he broke the silence:
"Conti's attending the wedding.
He claims he wants to 'discuss business' with me –
but I know he's trying to intimidate me in public."
Maya's eyes widened.
"We can't let him in – security can stop him at the door!"
Alessandro shook his head.
"Conti's already sent his RSVP – Isabella invited him
before I could warn her about him.
Now he's threatening to ruin the wedding if I don't
meet with him privately during the reception."
Maya felt a surge of anger towards Conti –
how dare he blackmail Alessandro like this?
She turned to Alessandro, determination etched on her face.
"We'll stop him – I'll help you come up with a plan.
Conti won't ruin Isabella's wedding day – not on my watch!"
Alessandro smiled softly, reaching out to brush
a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Thanks, Maya. Means everything to have you by my side...
**Time seemed to freeze as their eyes locked –
the air thick with tension between them.**
Then Alessandro cleared his throat, breaking the spell.
We should get back – Isabella's expecting me for dinner.
I'll walk you home first – Conti's men might still be watching.
Maya nodded, still feeling sparks from his touch...
