"If you had just listened to me the first time, we wouldn't be in this predicament in the first place!" The shouting reached Leslie's ears before she finished. "You weren't even sure if you were right and because of that I made that decision because you didn't." Her dad said back. Leslie stared at the ceiling of her room as her parents arguments wafted through the house. It's a daily occurrence now, ever since her Dad made the decision to invest money in a company a few years ago. This wouldn't have happened if the company didn't fold a few weeks ago and now her Mum thinks they're stuck. They still work, Leslie works, everyone is being handled but her Mum has very expensive taste and apparently this income they are living on isn't helping her feed into it. She still feeds into into it from time to time but she has complained on numerous occasions that it isn't enough for her. "Don't tell me that. If I wasn't sure you should not have gone for it." "You weren't complaining when it was paying through out the years. You shouldn't be complaining now." It always starts the same way, Mum spends too much and complains to Dad, then Dad tells her to be more responsible so she wouldn't have to complain about spending too much on non important things, Mum gets upset and talks about the company, Dad gets tired and tries to explain that everything is going to work out, Mum lashes out. "What are you implying?" Her Mum asks.  Leslie groans and gets up. She had heard this argument too many times to let it escalate.  She checks her little sister, Kenna's room to see her asleep, it was a mystery how she slept through this, but again it's a good thing, Leslie would never forget the day she caught her pretending to be asleep, she shouldn't have to witness any it. Leaving her sister's room, Leslie, took the short walk to her parent's room. "Good morning, parents." Leslie said, resting against the side of the door. "Good morning my darling, how did you sleep?" Her Mum asks. "Don't even start, you have a seven year old daughter who might or might not be hearing your arguments which are starting to become more frequent. Why is this even happening? An investment? You're not poor, we aren't on the street, we bought this house not even a year ago so this has nothing to do with that investment. Mum the reason there is even a conversation about your spending is because you tend to go overboard with the things that you already have and forget the things you actually said you would get, everyone in this household knows that. There is no point for the arguments. Both of you need to put on your big boy and big girl undies and come to terms that the company folded, you both recovered." Leslie explained. "I think you both need to consider the feelings of your youngest child because I can bet that she has heard at least one argument. "We would give you space. I would drop Kenna at her friends and I would go to my friends house. Talk to Kenna and we would be gone by this afternoon, make up." Leslie leaves their room with that final sentence. Going down the stairs for a cup of coffee, she begins to feel a slight head ache coming on and softly groans. Of course is her thought. Her phone vibrates on the counter before the shrill sound of the default Samsung ringtone comes through. 'DK' pops upon the screen and she picks up. "You won't believe what just happened. I won a lottery!" Came Denny's voice, her excitement clear. "That's nice, what did you win?" "What happened?" Her worry clear in her voice and Leslie immediately felt bad. "Don't stop on my account. What did you win?" "You know what, it is coincidentally a trip to a cabin, I can bring whoever I want, It is a five bedroom, large five bedrooms and you are my first invite. It can take your mind off things, you can relax." That won't be so bad, the perfect vacation, she thought smiling to herself. "Sure, when are you leaving?" "First thing tomorrow, the SUV is coming to pick me and my invites tomorrow." "I'm coming to your house today anyway so I would just pack for a week." If anything Denny's squeal revealed her excitement. "See you soon." "First opportunity to get away I see." Her Dad's voice comes from behind her. "At least now you have the time to spend with your daughter after you talk it out with each other first." Leslie replied with a shrug, taking a sip of her coffee. "I want to apologize on behalf of your mother and I for making you and your sister uncomfortable. It was never our intention." "There are just things adults go through that their kids never understand but I only decided to say something today because I caught Kenna pretending to be asleep, that's why I was so sure she heard." Her Dad sighed, face falling. "We would make this up to both of you." Leslie walked forward, holding her Dad's hand. "Make it up to Kenna the most, I had a wonderful childhood with you both and I am nineteen now, she needs it." Kissing her Dad on the forehead. "I love you, see you in a week." Taking her mug she goes back up the stairs to her room, once again passing by Kenna's room to see her Mum in there, she walked past silently. If this was what changed their mind I should have said something earlier. She mused, going back into her room. What would I want for a cabin trip? It depends on where it is.  She dials Denny's number and she picks on the second ring. "What's up Mama."  "How many people are coming?"  "I mean the house can fit seventeen people comfortable and the only people that are available are ten, counting you and I, soooo. Oh, and pack swim suits, there is a pool and just casual clothes would be okay, we aren't going anywhere too much the house is stocked. Ahhhhh, this is going to be the best week ever!" Leslie couldn't help but agree.
