Alice pressed her back into the door, commanding herself not to open it again. Not to run to the window and watch the car roll out of her driveway. She’d been dropping Westin off at her mom’s for years. Then school. He went to birthday parties and out to lunch with his grandfather. He knew how to survive without her.
