“You’re going to stay with grandma tonight, Westie,” Alice said to her son. “Get your backpack, and make sure you have clean clothes and unders for school tomorrow.” She pushed her hand through her hair and sighed as she looked around her son’s room. It was littered with building blocks, toys, a skateboard, his abandoned baseball equipment, and his dirty clothes. “And you’re going to have to clean this room tomorrow after school.” “I have piano tomorrow after school,” he said, getting down on the floor to pull his backpack out from under his bed. He unzipped it, and a foul smell nearly punched Alice in the chest. “What is that?” she asked. “I forgot I had a ham sandwich in there,” he said, taking out a bag that contained the remains of the sandwich. Alice made a face and left the room
