“He did?” Alice looked at her phone again, sure the text message from the school about Westin missing that day was wrong. Westin never missed school, unless he was deathly ill. And if he was deathly ill, Hunter should’ve called her. She dialed him, frustrated when his line rang and rang and then went to voicemail. “Hunter, did you know Westin missed school today? Call me back, please.” She decided to try her mother, worrying needling her heart and her stomach simultaneously in the most unpleasant way. Her mom picked up, and Alice said, “Did you know Westin missed school today?” “Yes,” she said, utterly nonplussed. “He and Hunter went to Forks.” “Forks? What in the world?” Alice couldn’t think of anything else to say. Why would Hunter take Westin to forks on a Thursday? It made no sense
