My phone chimes as I walk into my office, just once I’d like to eat my lunch without this dam thing going off, “Lilly, what’s up” “you need to come up to recovery. You need to see something.” Something in her voice is off. “Is this important, I’ve just had back to back meetings....” “Yes it’s important. Get here now, room 002.” Did she just hang up on me? If it wasn’t Lilly being so demanding, I’d be pissed off, but there’s something about her “in your face” attitude that kind of lightens my moods. But this wasn’t her regular ultra alpha personality. She really seems freaked out. I'm pressing the elevator button, but it’s taking too long. Why do I feel flustered? I don’t like it when Lilly is like this. Being of Beta blood, I need to trust her judgement. “Why isn’t the dam thing moving?” Guess it’s the stairs then! I jog up two flights of stares several steps at a time. It smells like smoke in here. Clearly, the signs get ignored.. Pushing through the fire doors, I head down the corridor looking for room 002, “Just over here.” Lilly calls out. I’ve got to give her nose credit, picking up my scent in this environment isn’t easy, best tracker is just one of her attributes, she’s a strong pack member, and she’s always caught my attention. “What’s so important, you're worrying me....” I walk into the room, and I’m smashed in the face with an aroma of coca butter....I stop dead in my tracks, looking at a woman comatose on the bed in front of me “Can you smell it? It’s faint, but it’s there” I’m not listing. All I can focus on are the tubes and bandages. “Her name is Avery Spencer. She’s not our pack, but I don’t understand why her scent is so non-existent.” I slowly walk over to her. Her face is so swollen, and her head has been partly shaved. I want to reach out and touch her, but I don’t want to break her. She looks so fragile “ALPHA.....! Did you hear me?” I snap out of whatever spell I’m under and turn to Lilly... I can’t talk, I’ve never been speechless before. “what happened?” “Car accident. Hit and run!” Lilly walks over to her chart on the end of the bed and hands it to me “Her head Injuries are extensive, broken ribs, fractured skull, collapsed lung. Her hip was dislocated, and she had miner internal bleeding.” I look at the chart blankly, then back at the woman on the bed. I hear words we all want to hear, but I thought I’d never hear, “MATE” “Are you sure, Vallan?” “Yes, it’s her, don’t let anyone else in, keep her safe!” “Richard! Are you paying attentions, she’s not Old Moon. We need to find out why she’s here.” “Put guards on the door, no visitors without my knowing about it. I want to know who she is.” “I’m on it, boss.” With golden glowing eyes, I look Lilly dead in the face, “SHE’S TO BE KEPT SAFE!” “What? What’s going on, safe? She’s an intruder.” “You heard me Lilly, keep her safe. That’s an order, got it!” I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to her in that tone. I’m shaking, my hands clenched, I don’t want to leave but I have too. I need to get my brother. He needs to know, I need to hold a pack meeting. “Yes alpha” Lilly looks confused, but she will know what’s going on soon enough.
