Episode 9: The Man Who Created Her
Darkness swallowed the house.
Elara stood completely still.
“Kael?”
“I'm here.”
She could hear his breathing beside her.
“Who is that man?”
Kael didn't answer.
“Kael.”
“He's Dr. Adrian Vale.”
Elara's heart stopped.
“Vale?”
“Yes.”
“My father?”
“No.”
“Then why does he have my surname?”
Kael's voice became quieter.
“Because your real name is not Elara Vale.”
A sudden sound came from upstairs.
Crash!
Maya stirred on the floor.
“Elara…”
She rushed toward her.
“Maya!”
Maya opened her eyes weakly.
“Don't let him take you.”
“Who?”
Maya looked toward the window.
“Your creator.”
Elara's blood ran cold.
The front door suddenly opened.
No one had touched it.
A man's voice echoed through the darkness.
“Evelyn.”
Elara froze.
Kael immediately stepped in front of her.
Adrian walked into the room.
He looked calm.
Almost gentle.
His eyes settled on Elara.
“My daughter.”
Elara shook her head.
“Don't call me that.”
He smiled.
“You always hated that name.”
“I don't know you.”
“You don't remember me.”
“Because you erased my memories?”
“No.”
He took another step.
“Because you asked me to.”
Elara stared at him.
“That isn't true.”
Adrian looked at Kael.
“Tell her.”
Kael said nothing.
Adrian smiled.
“You see? He still lies for you.”
Elara looked at Kael.
“Tell me the truth.”
Kael's eyes filled with pain.
“You were dying.”
“When?”
“Sixteen.”
“Why?”
“You had a disease.”
Elara frowned.
“What disease?”
Adrian answered.
“Your brain was deteriorating.”
Silence.
“We couldn't save you.”
Elara's voice trembled.
“So what did you do?”
Adrian smiled.
“We copied your memories.”
Elara stared at him.
“Copied?”
“You died.”
Her breath caught.
“Your body died sixteen years ago.”
Maya whispered,
“No…”
Adrian continued.
“We created another body.”
Elara touched her face.
“No.”
“Your memories were placed inside it.”
She stepped backward.
“I'm not real.”
Adrian's expression softened.
“You are real.”
“Then what am I?”
“A second chance.”
Elara's eyes filled with tears.
Adrian looked toward Kael.
“But Kael ruined everything.”
Kael stepped forward.
“Don't blame me for saving her.”
Adrian's expression hardened.
“You were never supposed to love her.”
Elara looked between them.
“Love?”
Kael's face went pale.
Adrian laughed.
“You were supposed to be her guardian.”
Elara stared at Kael.
“Then why did you love me?”
Kael looked at her.
“Because somewhere between protecting you…”
He swallowed.
“…I forgot you weren't supposed to be mine.”
Adrian raised his gun.
“That mistake ends tonight.”
Elara suddenly remembered something.
A laboratory.
A glass chamber.
Her own body lying inside it.
And a voice saying:
“If she remembers the original life, terminate the replacement.”
Elara looked at Adrian.
“You're not my father.”
His smile disappeared.
“You're the one who killed the original Evelyn.”
Adrian's eyes went cold.
“And now…”
He raised the gun.
“…I have to kill you too.”
Kael stepped in front of Elara.
A gunshot echoed.
And this time—
Elara remembered everything.
