SHOCKED BEYOND RECOVERY

Laura's Pov. “I'm starting to think you are allergic to productivity,” I heard a very familiar feminine voice saying from my sleep. “You are more useless than a wet noodle,” the voice continued to rain curses. I slowly opened my eyes, blinking them stylishly to adjust to the lightning in my surroundings. My eyes opened and I saw that I was in my room and on my own bed, but I had no memory of how I got there. The events of the previous night were hazy, but I vaguely recalled meeting a stranger, and f*****g him ruthlessly in the club's restroom, and gratefully coming back home before Ethan and his mommy. I turned my head to see my mother-in-law standing in my bedroom doorway, a cup of coffee in her hand with a condescending look on her face. Her son, my husband, was right beside her, and they both stared at me like I was a disgusting piece of trash. “Sometimes, I wonder why my son hasn't gotten rid of you,” she said, walking over to my bed, and dripping the hot coffee on my face. I rubbed my face, wincing at the hotness of the drops of coffee on my face., and trying to ward off the pounding headache at the same time. “What is it this time?” I asked audaciously, my voice hoarse from sleep. “Huh?” Her eyes widened, and she poured the remaining coffee on my face. “How dare you?!” her already large eyes widened at me in horror. “Ahh!” I let out a loud yelp as the scorching coffee hit my face, feeling like a thousand needles piercing my skin. I instinctively jerked upright, my hands flying to my face and wiping away the burning sensation. My jaw clenched in anger and pain, my sad eyes glaring at my mother-in-law, whose eyes were full of unwarranted anger. “You, good-for-nothing wife who can't even produce a child, has the guts to talk back to me?” Her voice tinged with deep shock. I bet she never thought I would ever talk to her in such a manner. “Ma'am, you have no right to talk to me like that," I said, my voice shaking with anger. “I can see you’ve grown some balls.” She turned to her son, her eyes flaming. “You have to divorce this demon you call a wife, or…” she paused, spared me another glance and dashed out of the room. My husband, James, stepped forward, his eyes cold and unyielding. "Actually, Mother has every right to be concerned," he said. "You're not exactly pulling your weight around here, Laura." I felt a surge of rage at his words, but I bit back my retort, knowing it would only escalate the situation. Instead, I focused on trying to calm down, taking deep breaths and trying to ignore the searing pain on my face. "You know, Laura,” he began. I'm starting to think that my mother is right," Ethan said slowly. "You're not exactly the most... fertile woman, are you? I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, wondering if he had gone crazy or lost his memory. “Have you lost your mind?” I asked calmly, “Have you lost your sense of reasoning? Did you forget who you truly are and why you married me?” My blazing gaze was fixed on him as I poured at the numerous questions. “Keep your voice low,” he muttered “And don't forget why you married me too. Your brother is a free man because of me,” he narrowed his eyes. “Be rest assured that the moment you think of leaving this marriage, your brother will be back behind bars again,” he spat with no hint of mercy or empathy. I swallowed hard, grief seizing the air in my lungs. I coughed out softly. “Go fix us something light for breakfast, my brother is on his way from a long trip,” he ordered, gave me another sideway condescending glance and walked out of my room. Immediately I heard his footsteps trail away, I let the tears I had been holding for so long rolled down my ears. I was just trapped in a loveless marriage, the only family I have, my brother, is trapped in it with me Crying over my situation won't do me any good. I knew I had to snap out of it. I can't afford to let Ethan or his demonic mother see me cry. I took a deep breath, wiped my tears away, and stood up. My legs felt like jelly, but I forced myself to move. I sluggishly dragged myself to the kitchen, my eyes scanning the room for any signs of what Ethan might want for breakfast. I saw some eggs, bread, and cheese on the counter, and I quickly got to work. I cracked the eggs into a bowl and began to whisk them together, my mind drifting to last night's encounter with the stranger. He was not just handsome and endowed, he was skilled at thrusting the p***y. I licked my lower lips, the pleasure of last night ignited in my head. I picked the bread to butter it when the same cologne from last night hit my nostrils. I Inhaled the scent slowly, thinking it was my skin or my memory playing tricks with me. Suddenly, I heard loud cheers of joy and greetings from the living room. My mind raced with intense anxiety as I hastened up the cooking and quickly finished preparing the breakfast. I arranged the eggs, toast, and cheese on a platter and headed to the dining palace. I entered the living room only to be greeted by grave silence. Only my mother-in-law sat comfortably; her attention was so fixated on her phone that she didn't notice my presence until I placed the food on the table. She stared at the plate of food and then up at my face. "I'm surprised you are able to cook a decent meal today. I was expecting the disaster you are good at cooking.” she scoffed. “I'm glad you like it,” I answered, bowing my head to avoid eye contact with her. “Of course. You know what will happen if I don't like it,” she snarled. I simply nodded and began to serve her food when the scent of the cologne drew closer, and then the husky voice followed. “I can't wait to be at the company tomorrow; I think I have missed a lot,” the sweetest, deep masculine voice I have ever heard said, approaching the dining palace and dragging the chair beside my mother-in-law. Eagerly, yet slowly, with a slow flow of adrenaline, I raised up my head, and my heart skipped immediately. I saw the figure dragging out a chair to sit beside my mother-in-law. Our gaze met, and he smiled at me, making me wonder if he knew who I was and still f****d me.
