Who is in charge?

The quality time I got to spend with the professor was actually so heart-warming. He had that security in him about everything. He believed that things can getter better if we push them to become better. The positivity that was around him, made the rest feel always happy to have him by their side. But we had to wake the boys up and tell everything that was about to happen.

At first the professor told them only to listen. So he started explaining it all and I could on their faces they were already fired up. Especially Luis, he was about to explode as hid device was actually one of the greatest creating in the human history. But the professor told them to be silent and, well, they could not oppose him. He was their mentor and they had to listen it all.

When the professor got to the end of the story the first one to talk was Luis as he could not hold it inside no more.

- “My device works. I mean this is the greatest creation and we have to share the news right now. As soon as possible. Please call Mrs. Scott, we have to meet him first.”-Luis said.

The professor was actually right in predicting what Luis had done absolutely wrong in my reality. He knew that Luis would call Mrs. Scott in no time at all. So everything was actually as he had predicted it would be.

-“ Listen to me Luis, you are not going to call anyone. You and Nick would just follow my directions. I know that you are really enthusiastic about this, but Mrs. Scott does not listen to anyone. He needs facts and he needs to be convinced. And I have known him for years, I am the only capable of convincing him.”

The boys kept on listening to what I had already heard from the professor a few hours ago. I saw that Luis was still unconvinced about what the professor was saying. And I somehow understand how much it meant for him. The thing that he had been working for years would probably be one of the most influential piece of technology in the future.

At some point the professor said:

-“ Nick, you and Luis are going here and will start to make a full resume about everything we know in details. You, Luis, today, you are going make ready a catalog of your creation, of your device. You are going to start writing in there what you device does, how it works and how it will change the future of technology as we know. When the time comes, you are the one who are going to explain to them about it. Because you have created it. Meanwhile Martha, I might need you while trying to convince Mrs. Scott. If it is not a problem for you, I would like you if it is needed in the future to share a part of your story, about time-traveling with Mrs. Scott. If he is not convinced at all or if he doubts our story and wants to know more about it, you will be our X factor in this stage. I promise you I will be as much careful not to cause any problem for you in the near future, because if they trust you, your life will be completely different. They will make you take tests, they will try to do experiments on you, I mean that is quite a risk to take. But we may need you. So if you allow me, if I need you, I will give you a call.”

It took me some seconds to process it all, but I had to answer.

-“If you need me, I will be there for you. I do not mind taking that risk, if it is for a bigger reason. We are all working on this project, you have all already offered something from your lives to work on this project, and I have to take that risk. Even if it costs me some part of normal life. If you assure me that they won’t do anything bad to me, or use me for bad purposes, I am a hundred percent into it.”-I answered with a big feeling of doubt inside of me.

-“Thank you Martha, I promise you, that no matter where this project takes us, I will not allow them to do anything bad to you. I will take every step of it carefully. And when time comes, all of you will participate in this project. But you have to be patient to make it work. And even you Luis, be patient because what have you been working hard on, will soon be fully appreciated.”

But somehow, Luis exploded and could not hold it no more.

-“Why won’t you take us with you to talk to Mrs. Scott? We all know every detail about this project, we all know how this thing will end up, we also can make it more convincing for you as we are 4 people whom believe that this will happen soon. Why aren’t we allowed to come? We have no time to waste, we need to make it happen as soon as possible or we are all going to die soon. It is too risky for you to go alone.”-said Luis quite with anger.

-“Because you won’t be able to convince him. You need to change the way you talk while you are excited about something. And you should not be there.”-replied the professor quite angrily.

-“Convince me why I should not be there first! Try to convince me then go on and convince Mrs.Scott. I need to know why.”-replied Luis while the debate was heating up.

-“Because you already screwed it in Martha’s reality. You screwed it and I won’t let that happen again.”

-“Wait, what? What did I screw up?”-replied Luis quite shocked.

-“You know that me and Martha know something that you both don’t know. And Martha told it to me and no one else. And now it is time for you to know what that thing was. It was you Luis, knowing about the event. And in the radio, you stated that no one listened to you. You warned them and no one listened to you. Because you knew it first, as we all know now how, but this enthusiasm that you can’t control made you not to convince them about it. Because we now know that we have to do our best as soon as possible to convince them to start working on saving the planet. And I know that even in that reality, you have a good purpose to help them. But you can’t convince anyone especially in the way you explode when you should not. And this morning I told Martha that the first person Luis must have called back in the future would be Mrs.Scott. And a few minutes ago, you just proved my theory. Are you not enough convinced about it? This does not mean that I don’t know who you are or how important you are for our team. I know it, you were the key in finding out on what was going to happen next. You were the key on giving us the time we need to create something to face it. And we will always be thankful to you. But you need to be as patient as you were on trying to discover the thing we were about to face. Just listen to me Luis, the time will come when you will show the world your great and wonderful creation. And I would not let anyone take it away from you. But for the moment, please, listen to me and let me be in charge of the project. I am older and more experienced than you. And I will need you at some point once again. However, you need to talk to Mrs.Scott in a very tactical way. And the only person who can make it work right now and take us to the next step, it is me. And I promise to all of you, that I will make it work. But please have some patience in you.”

Luis just sat down and lowered his head in shame. He was going through some hard processing of what he needed to do next. He is a great man, but he just needed to calm himself at times. And he knew it.

-“Do you all get what we are going to do next? Was I clear enough to all of you?”-said the professor.

At that point, Luis said:

-“I am really sorry for exploding in that way. I got so excited and confused at the same time. But how would you know how important this project is for me if I did not express myself in that way. I have just one question, what do you think Mrs.Scott is going to do and how is he going to help us make progress in this project after you convince him?”

-“At first, I will do my best to convince him as much as possible. It is so hard to convince him to help you or believe you. If we achieve that part, you both know how important Mrs.Scott is as a scientist. He is one of the most influential scientist in our country and if he says he will do it, the rest would just follow him. Because they got so much in him. And you know it Luis. That is why he was the first person you would possibly call in these situation. Because he can take us to the next stage and help starting other projects and ideas on how we are going to prevent the apocalypse from happening. Moreover he could help Martha. He knows lots of great geniuses whom may find a solution about her. And also he would help us prevent anything bad from happening to Martha. If Mrs.Scott says no, there is no one in this world who can oppose him and convince him to do the opposite of it. He is very influential and we need someone that influential by our side. Then things would get much easier for all of us..”

-“Great to hear that. How much time do you think it would take us to convince him and take it to the next level?”-asked once again Luis.

-“There are two possible cases. At the best case it may take a week. At the worst scenario, if we are going to need Martha to convince him, it is going to take at least a month. We will have to do lots of resumes and we need to deliver tons of papers to him. And it will take time for him to check them all. If he is not fully convinced, we bring Martha in. And as I almost forgot, if I will need you Martha, you need to know that you are not going to share all the parts from your accident in the future. We need to emphasize the details you noticed about the asteroid in the future, the lost frequencies, the flames coming down from the sky, and the part of Luis’s radio station. So in details, you are going to be more focused on these three parts of the events in order to be able to convince him more. And if we do not succeed even at this, at worst, he might ask you questions about future events that you might now. So we need you to think of any event if your reality that has already happened in Summer, 2017, in order to convince him more. At least think of 3 popular events that may happen in the next few weeks that you already know of. If we do not succeed in all of the tries I said before, we may use this as the last option. So make sure to remember the things I said and prepare them. It doesn’t matter if we use them or not. We need to make sure to cover all of our holes in this project and make sure that we are prepared for every possible situation in the future. And one last thing. We will do our best. Today we make a promise to each other. No matter what the future may bring to us, we are the starters of this, and we will make sure we end this in a great way to save us all. Until then, you promise me you are going to be patient and hard-working. And you will always believe in each other. And lets hope. Lets hope that we will be able to find a solution about it. We are on the right track. Thank you for listening to me. Now I have to travel to Mrs.Scott office. I will let you know in a day or two on how are the things going. For everything I may need, I will call you.”

We all shook our heads in approval and helped the professor pack and leave. The professor was now more than a father, more than a friend, more than a mentor. He was our leader we did not know we needed. And at the moment, we depended on what the professor would do next. But we knew somehow, and hoped, that the professor would find a way to convince them. And moreover, he would make sure he was worthy of a leader to all of us.
