Project AC-303 - Part 1 - Ms. Scott

 The big moment had finally arrived. The things that we had been looking for months now, working daily to find them out, were here now. But as enthusiastic as you may feel, at the same time you feel more worried that you were while waiting. And at this point of time, my emotions were going higher and higher each day and at some point I started feeling a little dizzy and I had quite a headache for a while. I presume that everything I had been going through and now coming to a solution made me feel tired and a little sick. But we had to wait also for a few times, at least until a solution for our problem would come up. All our eyes were on the meeting that the professor was having with Ms. Scott. As he described him to us, Ms. Scott was a genius. He has been working with the space institutions for a while now. And he had quite a big influence on them. What Ms.Scott would say, would become reality with no debate at all. But as genius as he may sound, he was quite selective as a person. Every decision that he would make, would never come from his emotions or his emotional connections with people. All the decisions he makes are far from emotional. He is the most objective person in the entire universe, and he always thinks many and many times before coming up with a decision.

 You may wonder, what is the connection between the professor and Ms.Scott. As much as the professor told me, both of them have been friends since high school years, both of them being the geniuses of their respective classes. So those years were a fight between the two geniuses. But as much as they had in common, they also had their opposites. The professor was more talkative while Ms.Scott was quite selective. The moment they became friends was after a Science competition in which both of them actually won first place. As much as they were opponents, their brilliance and smart minds brought them together for a purpose. They needed to be as competitive and as friendly with each other to progress even more in the steps of the career and improve themselves even more. And that actually happened. Both of them finished the same college but chose different paths after that. As you remember the story of the professor, he has had a quite hard time since then. While on the other side, Ms.Scott never got married or had kids. He focused and worked each and each day on his career to finalise his piece of brilliance. And now he is one of the most influential figures in science all over the world. But that friendship was never broken. It was a friendship built on respect, competition and geniality. Even with years passing, they were still the same two genius kids from High School, who were always meant to be rivals, but ended up being friends. If we were to talk about his character, Ms.Scott was a very sceptic man. He did not want anyone to give opinions. He accepted thoughts and ideas only from the people he believed that had scientific proof about it. He was neither a friendly person, nor had the desire to make new friends. He had no brothers and sisters, so a man of brilliance as Ms.Scott was always alone. And as confusing as it may sound, as the professor described him to us, he loved to stay alone. I remember something that the professor said about Ms.Scott. 

-”In your life, you rarely see people like him. As much as a cold person he may look, he has his emotional side too. But what a man he is, he never confuses emotions with objective decisions. Rarely you see people do that. That is the hard luck geniuses have, they have fights with their emotions in different ways. And that is what makes it hard for them to adapt in our society. That is what it is for my friend, he sees the world with a perspective of the future the entire time, so rarely does he live in the present. He has been through a lot more than you can think, but the way he has dealt with it has made what he is today, a cold and sceptic person. But I am a more lucky person, to have him as my friend, this makes me feel as I am quite smart to see things in the brilliance for the future. There are lots of things to learn from him.”

 The way that the professor described him, made me think he was a movie character and not a real one. But he was real. The genius among us, but quite different from us. But the only hope for us. He was the only one that could take this project to the other phase. This was the only person who could start what would be the process to save the humans from going extinct. He was the person behind the curtains in a show, who makes everything look perfect so the actors can go on their performance. We all depended on his decision, his scepticism, his decision. But how lucky were we to have his childhood friend in our team. But as easy as it may look, the professor was not optimistic at all. Because he needed facts and here I was. The biggest fact of them all. But even I had a lot to prove. So we had come up with a plan.

    The first stage was the professor going to visit him and have a conversation first. As I described, the professor had quite a big importance in his life, so to start up the fire, the professor had to go first. The first stage was already being used by the time we are talking. We were still waiting for a response from the professor. After the first, if he needed more facts, which was already sure that he would need, we would jump to the second stage. The second stage involves me. The professor had already given me the instructions to follow and what information I needed to bring up. But as much a wonderful fact that I was, the professor already knew that he still would be sceptical. I mean, it is a common fact. Someone from the future sits in front of you. What are you going to do? Of course you will be laughing out loud thinking that person is insane. And you would ask about the future. So I had to come up with two to three events in July 2017, that would happen as soon as possible to convince him. I was already prepared on what I was going to say. But there was going to be doubts again. So what comes up in stage three? Nick and Luis, especially Luis, were already developing a resume of all the work. Luis was making a full document on his device, how was it developed and how it works and how accurate it is. While Nick on the other side, was accumulating as many facts and calculations about the asteroid AC-303, putting them all in details in a well prepared scientific document. But the professor already knew that even after this stage he would still have doubts. So what was more to come? Stage number 4, was the stage that we would wait. We would wait about my future events becoming a reality, and then we would be much closer on convincing Ms.Scott. So in the phase we would just wait patiently without making things worse. That is what the professor advised us to do, especially Luis, due to the fact that he was the most impatient person of us all. Our plan would take at least minimum a week to progress until the last stage, the stage in which only the professor was involved. After all the facts that we would bring up to him, the decisive moment would be his conversation with the professor, putting all the information together and making a final decision. If our plan was to work, then all of the next few stages would depend on Ms. Scott. The professor told us, if he takes over something, there is nothing to stop him from finishing it. And he will take charge of all what will happen next and never let us down. This was the major fact that we kept on hoping to become reality. 

    So to finalise our plan we had travelled a few miles to visit him. Me and the boys were staying at the hotel, while it had been hours since the professor had been going to have the conversation with Ms.Scott. And we were all just being silent on the hotel lobby and just waiting and waiting. Luis was all the time shaking and moving a lot. He was standing up, sitting, moving around, shaking his legs, scratching his head. He was the most anxious of us all. I understand why he was the most anxious. His device, if this plan worked, would be a world changing invention. And he would be one of the greatest scientists ever, the one who with his device, helped the human kind surviving an apocalypse. At some point he said:

-”Ah it is taking damn too long. I think this plan is not working at all. Why should we stay here, we need to talk to him, to bring him facts as soon as possible, to prevent this event from happening, why should we just sit here and wait. I don’t understand this, we needed to be there. No, I can not wait like this, I am going to call the professor.”

-”If you pick up that phone and call my father, I am going to kick your a*s so bad that you will never forget. Damn it brother, just wait. We are anxious as hell, and we are not talking at all. So do not bring this once again, just wait. Have faith in my father, this is going to work, just trust me, but do not make the mistake of calling him, just don’t, or we will fail without even starting. And that is the way that the human race would end.”

    After the words of Nick, Luis just sat down, and tried to take a short nap to relax himself. He was so worried, so anxious that he needed a break. Maybe even the past couple of days with lesser sleep, had made Luis feel quite anxious and emotional. Me and Nick were just hugging together and sitting waiting patiently, as I had so much faith in the professor’s decisions and plans. We were just looking into each other's eyes, and somehow I saw it in Nick's eyes, that he was holding his emotions too strong. But we needed to support each other at that moment. And the wait was worth it. A few minutes later, Nick’s phone rang. And we knew it was the professor. He told Nick that he would call him after he had finished the first stage. And the noise of the ringtone woke Luis immediately and in a rush. He was like pick it up, pick up dude. So Nick, after catching a breath, picked up the phone. And you could really see the emotion in our faces, waiting for some news from the professor. It took Nick a while to finish with the professor, as he was explaining something to him. After he ended the phone, he came to us and said:

-”Listen, the professor has finished the talk with Ms.Scott. And he said that it was quite an intensive debate. He was so sceptical about it. But there is some good news about it, he has accepted to continue the talks. Now we go to stage number 2. Martha, it is your turn, in 15 minutes someone will come pick you up here and will take you to them. The professor said that you remember what he told you and do not forget about them. He needs you to be as focused as possible. Now we progress to the second stage which in my opinion is a good thing to happen at least for us. Ms. Scott has faith in my father, so we won’t let him down. As for you Luis and me at the same time, we need to make the papers ready. In no time at all he will call us too. So you especially need to be as fluent as possible about what you have done, and find the best way possible to explain to Ms.Scott. And the advice I got from my father for you, be as cool as possible because everything will be okay.”

-”Finally some good news, I will make sure everything that he needs to know will be fully prepared by me, and I will fully prepare on what to say to him. Nothing will be missing. Thank God, we are doing good.”-replied Luis as he was more calm now and had a smile on his face. 

    Meanwhile, I was anxious at the moment and could not think much about anything else besides what I would say to Ms. Scott. I had chosen some small events that would happen really close to the day we were. So it would not take them a long time to confirm them and to make sure that I was from the future. But what I was the most anxious about was that, if this project progressed more and more, more people would know about me and more people will be around me, testing me and examining me. And I would be just anxious all the time with lots of people around me. Since we discovered the news about the asteroid, my life had been in a rush, and I had not had much time to sit and relax. All the time anxious, all the time worried, and that headache was still bothering me a lot. So I had to take a break. But not now. And not anytime soon I thought at that time. And I was quite right. 

    They picked me up and took me to Ms.Scott’s office. As I was entering the room, I would hear a loud, deep voice:

-”Come in.”

I got frightened by that voice but I needed to be much courageous, because at the first time I saw Ms. Scott, damn, I got so scared. He looked as an angry man, nervous, and very sceptical on what was going to happen next. I mean, the professor's description of him was more than perfect. But I have never been a genius, so I do not know how he feels or what he thinks inside of him. Or how he perceives this world and what is his purpose in life. He offered me a seat and at first he started to ask about my name, both of my names, as the professor had told him a little about me, and he knew a few things. And I had nothing to do but cooperate with him in the conversation we were doing. I told him that I had been a normal person, but that a terrific event happened that turned my life upside down. Still no reaction from him. He was silent and was just listening. Not even a little flinch or a little movement of his face muscles. But I still had to go on. So I continued to tell the entire story in as much detail as I could, the first time at our college, then the incident with my best friend, then the homeless guy, then the Radio Station and then the first day in this new universe and reality. I tried to be as fluent as possible and describe it in perfect details, and also add a couple of my thoughts in it to make it as believable as possible. As I have said before, no one believes if you tell them you are from the future. Moreover, they will make you because of that. So it is not an easy thing to describe to people if this happens to you. Nor easy, neither nice. You may sound as crazy as someone with big mental disorders. So as I was approaching the end to make myself feel more comfortable, I tried to look at the professor and Ms. Scott. The professor was all focused on me, always shaking his head in support of me, and that actually made me feel a little comfortable. On the other side, Ms. Scott hadn’t moved at all and he was just looking straight at me, with that dark shadowy face of his. That did not make me feel too comfortable to be honest. People that look at me that way, I do not think they are nice. But this is another story to be told. I finished all of my story and was waiting with patience for Ms. Scott's response and questions. He was not moving once again. He was just staring at me and I think he was analyzing me with his eyes, head to toes. And after a few minutes of a really awkward silence, Ms. Scott said his first words and we were all eyes and ears on what he would say. 

-”Interesting story. Quite detailed and explained. But hard to believe. Sound more as a kids story when you tell them before bed. There is not much to prove your story, but if you have anything to add, let me know.”-said Ms.Scott with a very angry face, as I think that at that moment he did not believe anything I just said.

-”Sure I do have something to tell you. Okay so today is 2nd of July, and there is a sports event that happens. My father has always been a fan of the German National Team, as he had spent a few years of studies there, and he became a big fan of the German team. So, they did play against Chile today, I remember this because I have become a fan of that team too, and they beat them 1-0, winning the Confederations Cup. I do not remember the exact minute but as much as I remember is quite a weird goal scored. So in a few hours that match will start, and the Germans are going to win 1-0. You can bet on that as much as you want if you want too. I am not telling you to become a bettor but that will happen and I know it for a fact. Also today they declare the EBOLA outbreak somewhere in Africa, I think it was Congo. And the world will have a terrible time with EBOLA. But EBOLA will be nothing to a pandemic coming years later and a big lockdown of the world. So it will be the outbreak of the EBOLA and most of the people will start to get worried especially in Africa. So this is also an event happening today. Open the news if you want too. I remember it because my mum was always discussing daily events happening. We had to see news all the time on TV when we were in High School. In the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, only news. So that is why I remember that. If you have any TV in here, you may open it and keep it open. This news will bump up. And as for the last event that I have chosen to prove to you that I am from the future, in two days, North Korea will test their first missile near Japan. Later on they will become a danger for the rest of the world. Because they will never stop testing their missiles near Russia, US, Japan and so on. So it is the beginning of continual events of North Korea. And they will never stop. So this happens in two days and for the first time all the countries will start to get worried about North Korea and their ballistic missiles. I know this once again, because my mum acted as a politician when this happened and thought they were going to hit us anytime soon as their leader was crazy. He is still crazy in 2021. But none of that happens. So if you would like me to add anything else to my story, just let me know.”

    Silence again. Everything silent. Even though most of the people would be amazed by what I had just told, Ms.Scott did not move a single muscle once again. He did not care how wonderful or magical my story was. He was just listening in disbelief once again. At some point he picked up his phone and called his secretary to tell them to bring the TV to the office. It was a moving TV and told them to put it on the news channel and just leave that there so we could continue discussing. At some point the professor broke the silence and said:

-”Martha has been doing great in our reality. She had been trying to adapt and she was lucky to find good people to help her. And if it was not for her, we would have never known that the asteroid would hit Earth anytime soon. So she helped us a lot by sharing with us her story and working with us all this time to make that discovery.”

-”Look my friend, I know what you are trying to say. Do not act as you do not know me. I can call now the whole institution and start this project if I want too. But what if this ends up pretty bad and none of that happens. What if this girl is just confused with her life. Her story is quite believable but I have to wait for the facts to prove it. We do have the TV here, and we will wait. I won’t take any further action on this. I know she may have been a good girl to you, but for me, is something more serious than being a good girl. Because if this is true, all of our lives are risked, and if this is not true at all, my reputation and my chair is risked. So it is a loss/loss situation for me. So please, just wait and stop adding things I do not like. Because I am always putting some effort in here. You know how the people up there are, they do not need stories, they need facts. That is why I am filming all this. To prove it to them.”-said Ms.Scott and I got confused.

-”Wait, you are filming this?”-I said.

-”Of course we are filming it, who will believe us if we do not? But this will be kept secret and shown to none, so do not worry, have some faith in me. Even though I may shout at my friend here, he is my friend, and I still do believe him. Because I did not start believing him, today, it has been going for years. And he told me some things beforehand. So I guaranteed him that none of these things we have been talking about will be shared with people, unless it is someone that is going to help us, and without you confirmation. But this is a proof we all need. This is a fact. And people up there, the ones with the big reputation, they need facts, big facts. They will not believe us the easy way as the professor did with you. They need proof. If you tell them I have a multimillion dollar plan, they need that analysis on why it is going to be a multimillion dollar? They need the perfect plan and that is why it is not easy to make it to the top without any help. And one of the ways to make it to the top with this project is me. They believe me. I have proven my skin's worth and they do know it. And that is why my smart friend here came up to me. Because he knows I can take this project to the top. I am just as a manager to what you have started. I know how it works up there. So now we just sit and wait for the news. If you have anything to add, keep going, I am all ears, if you do not, I will probably need some silence now, you can go out and do something else.”-said Ms.Scott with a quite terrible vibe of his.

I got a little angry at that moment and I stared in a wrong way at Ms.Scott. But he did not give a single damn to my reaction. He was like okay, you wanna look at me angry, go on, look at me angry. He just did not care at all. But somehow, I realised that he had the bossy status and was a little up to the moon. But at that moment, I also let my emotions get the worst out of me. And I should have not done that at all. And at that moment the professor took me outside in a rush. He saw that if I would stay there, being ignored by Ms.Scott, well I would go completely insane and would explode. And if I exploded, well, Ms. Scott would do the same. We still laugh to this day with how I was the one who could not control the emotions on that day. 

-”What are you doing Martha? I thought Luis was the problem here, but you are becoming a bigger problem than him. What are you thinking? I told you he is not the person who is friendly and says to you, come give me a hug and let's hang out. He doesn't even care what you do. Or what you think. I told you, what else should I repeat to you guys? I was worried about Luis, but now I am more worried for you. You need a break. Let's grab a coffee or something. I will not let you stay inside there. Let me tell him that we will be back soon.”-said the professor.
