EPISODE 11: What He Really Is

913 Words
“Adrian…” Elena’s voice came out softer than she intended, her fingers tightening instinctively around his hand. The woman stood only a few feet away now, her body trembling slightly, her head tilted at an unnatural angle. Her eyes God. Her eyes weren’t focused on anything… and yet they were locked directly on Elena. Watching. Waiting. “Don’t speak,” Adrian murmured. His voice had changed again. It wasn’t just calm anymore. It carried weight. Authority. Something deeper than sound something that seemed to press into the air itself. Elena felt it immediately. That same pressure from before… stronger now. Almost suffocating. “Look at me,” Adrian said again, stepping forward. The woman stilled. Her breathing slowed. But her eyes They flickered. Like something inside her was fighting. Or listening. Elena couldn’t move. She didn’t want to. Her entire focus was on Adrian now the way he stood, steady and unshaken, as if he had done this a thousand times before. As if this was who he really was. “Who are you…?” she whispered, barely aware she’d spoken out loud. Adrian didn’t answer. But something in his expression shifted. Not anger. Not fear. Something heavier. The woman suddenly gasped. Her body jerked forward Elena’s heart slammed. “Adrian!” Before she could react, Adrian’s arm moved behind him, pulling her back against him in one swift motion. Her breath caught as her back pressed against his chest, his other hand still gripping hers tightly. “Stay with me,” he said, low and firm near her ear. The closeness hit her instantly. Too much. Too real. She could feel the rise and fall of his chest, the heat of his body, the tension coiled inside him like something barely restrained. And yet… She didn’t pull away. “Enough,” Adrian said sharply. The word cut through the air like something physical. The woman froze mid-step. Completely. Her body went still, like a string had been pulled tight. Elena’s breath hitched. That wasn’t possible. That wasn’t Science couldn’t Adrian stepped forward slowly, guiding Elena with him, not letting go of her hand. “Listen carefully,” he said, his voice low, controlled. “This isn’t what you think it is.” Elena shook her head slightly. “Then what is it?” He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he lifted his hand the one not holding hers and placed it gently against the woman’s forehead. The moment he did The air shifted again. Stronger this time. Heavier. Elena gasped softly as a sudden wave of… something rushed through the space around them. Not wind. Not sound. Something else. Something she felt more than saw. The woman’s body trembled violently for a second Then collapsed. Just like that. Gone. Still. Silent. Elena’s knees almost gave out. Adrian caught her instantly, his arm wrapping around her waist, pulling her upright before she could fall. “I’ve got you,” he said quietly. Her hands gripped his shirt without thinking, her breathing uneven, her mind struggling to catch up with what she had just witnessed. “That’s not possible,” she whispered. “That’s not there’s no explanation for that.” “I know.” She looked up at him. And for the first time… He didn’t try to deny it. “Then what are you?” The question slipped out before she could stop it. It hung between them. Heavy. Dangerous. Adrian’s gaze darkened slightly. “Someone who exists outside what you’ve been taught,” he said quietly. “That’s not an answer.” “It’s the only one I can give you right now.” Frustration flared in her chest but it didn’t overpower the other feeling rising beneath it. Something softer. Something far more dangerous. “You could have told me,” she said, her voice lower now. “And you would have believed me?” She hesitated. …No. Exactly. His hand was still on her waist. Her hands were still gripping his shirt. Neither of them had moved. The moment stretched. Slow. Intentional. Her heart began to race again but not from fear this time. Something else. Something warmer. “You were scared,” he said softly. “I wasn’t” “You were.” His thumb brushed lightly against her side. The smallest movement. But it sent a sharp wave of heat through her. “I’m still here,” she said quietly. His eyes softened just slightly. “I know.” Silence fell again. But this time… It wasn’t heavy. It wasn’t dangerous. It was something else entirely. Something close. Something that made her forget just for a second everything else. “Elena…” Her name sounded different when he said it like that. Lower. Softer. Closer. Her breath caught. “Yes?” He didn’t answer immediately. His gaze dropped briefly to her lips. And that single moment That single shift Was enough to change everything. Elena felt it. The tension. The pull. The inevitable edge they had been circling since the beginning. Her heart pounded. Her body didn’t move. Didn’t want to. Then Adrian stepped back. Just enough to break it. Just enough to breathe again. “You need to go back,” he said quietly. And just like that The moment was gone. But Elena knew. As she stood there, her heart still racing, her skin still warm from his touch, her mind still spinning Something had changed. Not just the situation. Not just the danger. Her.
