Without warning, Owen slapped the nurse across the face. She stood there stunned, clutching her cheek, too afraid to even ask why.
"Go to HR and pick up your final paycheck. You're fired."
"M-Mr. Parker, I didn't even..."
The nurse didn't get to finish. Owen's cold stare cut her off.
"Get out! I never want to see you again."
I had never seen Owen lose his temper like this. He looked like he was fighting to keep himself under control, but the fury in his chest had burned his eyes red.
I couldn't help but laugh bitterly. A man who had betrayed me was already a cruel joke in my life. Yet when someone else helped him humiliate me, he suddenly couldn't tolerate it.
The nurse was furious, but she didn't dare say another word. She left with resentment written all over her face.
Owen sat down beside my hospital bed. He reached out to touch my wound, but I moved away.
His hand stopped in midair. After a long pause, he finally asked, "You know everything now?"
I thought he would at least try to explain. Maybe come up with some excuse.
But he didn't.
There was no trace of guilt in Owen's voice. Instead, he sounded like the one who had been wronged.
"Emma, no matter how angry you were, you shouldn't have pushed Grace. She almost lost the baby. That child did nothing wrong. You've been through that pain yourself. You should know better than anyone how heartbreaking it is to lose a baby."
I looked at Owen and laughed. Tears rolled down my face.
"Owen, you didn't even ask me."
He never cared to hear my side. He took Grace's words as the truth and condemned me without a second thought. He knew losing my baby was the deepest wound I carried, yet he still chose to tear it open again.
I tried to hold back my tears, but they kept falling.
Owen reached out to wipe them away.
"I didn't want to believe you could be so cruel either. But do you really think Grace would risk her own baby just to fake something like this?"
At that moment, my heart went completely numb. Suddenly, even Owen's touch made my stomach turn. It felt unbearable.
I lifted my hand and slapped him across the face with all the strength I had left.
The movement pulled at my injury, sending sharp waves of pain through my body.
"Owen, you two are sick. Since this is what you want, I'll give you both exactly that."
I stared at Owen as tears streamed down my face, but there was no love or hesitation left in my eyes.
For the first time, Owen looked genuinely afraid.
"Emma, don't do this. Don't look at me like that. I never wanted to marry anyone else. Grace, she... she's only carrying our child. I'll take care of her and the baby somewhere else. It won't change anything between us."
He reached for my hand again.
At that moment, a nurse rushed into the room.
"Mr. Parker, Mrs. Parker is saying her stomach hurts. She wants you to go see her!"
Mrs. Parker?
Owen didn't explain. He didn't even pause.
"Emma, wait here. I'll come back."
With that, he turned and rushed out of the room without looking back. The same way he had run to Grace without hesitation before.
I slipped the ring off my finger.
Owen was a man who betrayed me. Why should I waste another second waiting for him?
I completed my discharge paperwork alone at the self-service kiosk. No one noticed me leaving. Everyone was gathered outside Grace's VIP room, showering her with attention.
At eight that night, I boarded the plane with the expedition team, heading toward Antarctica, a place where Owen no longer existed.
Before boarding, I called the wedding planner.
"Yes, cancel the wedding."
