Mallory cast the spell on Jorgen, making sure the essence crystals in her satchel were easy to access in case she needed more mana. The mage was too far from her for her to be able to cast vanish I on him. She waited half a minute before she cast it on herself and hurried forward, being as silent as possible. She was just in range when the mage was jerked backwards. She cast vanish I on the mage, rapidly followed by beacon on the ground where he’d stood, having drawn mana from one of the crystals. She was partway back to where her party was hidden when she needed to recast vanish on herself, relieved Jorgen had two invisibility potions and wouldn’t need her help since she had to draw the rest of the mana from one crystal and over half the mana of another small essence crystal.
