It took Mallory a few seconds to register what had happened. She broke into a run, drawing out her wand, Ryan at her side, Fang and Deneg in the lead. “Brodie!” She called out his name over the sound of Fang barking. Fear raced through her when he didn’t answer. “Brodie!” Again the only sound was Fang. She slowed her pace as she came to the end of the short tunnel that had led off the cave they’d been in.
Ryan stepped between Mallory and the three large spiders that were in the cave they entered. “I can’t see him.”
Mallory’s gaze was drawn to the cobweb cocooned bodies, some of them looking human, scattered across the ground amongst what looked like large egg sacs. “What if he’s one of them?” She nodded towards the cobwebbed body lying not far from them.
