Mallory tried to take a step in the wandering soul’s direction, but Jenet kept hold of her wrist. It was impossible to break her grip. “I need to find out what’s wrong.” Mallory nodded in the direction of the young wandering soul. “They’ve already been in serious danger today.”
“We haven’t finished discussing the matter of my freedom,” Jenet protested.
“You’re not about to leave me in here unprotected, are you?” Deneg asked. “I need to return to sleep. I’ve managed to have so little of it today. And there’s also the gold I need to free my brother.”
“Someone should have stayed with the wagon,” Ninette said.
Mallory looked from each of them, not sure what to do. Sometimes their party wasn’t big enough to deal with everything that needed to be done.
