Chapter 5: It Won't Happen Again

2543 Words
Two days before the Red Room Leviathan "Ahhh! Please! I can't take anymore!" Leviathan growled his disgust and immediately got off the stupid vampire in front of him. He thought, with as much smack as she was talking, she would at least be able to keep up with his...tastes. But, obviously, he was wrong. "Get out!" he roared, kicking at the woman as she grabbed her clothes and ran out. He cursed as he saw the bloodstains all over his sheets. That was absolutely pointless. Why can't any of these blasted females take the pleasure he was trying to give them?! He picked up the knife he had laid on the bedside table and licked the bloody end of the blade. Knitting his eyebrows together pensively, Leviathan thought back to a harrowing conversation he once had with his master, Castiel. ~flashback~ "Castiel. Asmodeus is shirking her responsibilities. She hasn't even sent you her allotted donations this month. Give me her region. I vow to make it a profitable donation center." The vampire in front of Leviathan had his back facing him, but he could see the straightening of his shoulders at his impertinence. "Ha. So you plan to take over Asmodeus' region and make it even more prosperous than your own? Lest we forget, Leviathan, you haven't filled your quota either." Castiel turned to face him, his hands clasped behind his back. The olive skin and rugged face portrayed a conventionally handsome man of about 35, although Leviathan knew Castiel was over three hundred years old. His piercing red eyes glared at Leviathan, almost as if he was boring a hole through his head. Leviathan dropped his gaze as Castiel raked his hand through his jet-black hair and chuckled mirthlessly. "I admire your confidence Vi, I really do. Even when it borders on...insolence. However, Asmodeus is doing exactly as I have asked of her at this time. She has dogs trotting all through her territory, and they tell tales of some rather... disturbing events. She is investigating this matter, and that takes precedence over blood donation." Leviathan snarled softly to himself. Damn that Florence. Giving him half-assed information like this. He would make sure to punish her the next time he was given the chance. "I...I had no idea, Castiel. I apologize if I offended you." Darting a glance at Castiel's face, he noticed him stroking his chin thoughtfully, before waving his words away. "Don't worry about it Leviathan. You may leave. We can talk later." Leviathan gave a curt nod and headed towards the door. Just as he reached for the handle he heard Castiel clear his throat. "By the way, Vi. When exactly did you stop seeing me as your master?" Before he could turn around Castiel was standing next to him at the door. Although Leviathan was a bit bigger than him, Castiel grabbed him by his throat and easily lifted him off the ground, snarling. "Listen whelp," he growled out through his elongated fangs. "I may make decisions you do not like. Let me tell you now. I give not one f**k. You will respect me, and you will obey me. Or I will rip your heart out and shove it down your throat before frying you in the sun. Am I clear?" Leviathan forced out a choked "yes, master" before he was dropped to the floor. "Vi, you better find a better outlet for your control issues. I would hate to see them get you killed one day." Leviathan bowed low, still coughing and massaging his throat. He hurriedly left the room and made his way to his car. ~end flashback~ Leviathan absentmindedly rubbed his throat as he thought back to that encounter. That had happened almost 18 years ago, and Castiel had never treated him the same since. His plan to overthrow Castiel was no closer to fruition than it had been all those years ago, and his quality of life had suffered for it. He had taken his master's advice and gotten himself a hobby, but none of the vampires in his coven could keep up with his sadistic proclivities. Werewolves were sturdier, but none of them could handle the venom from his bites and would inevitably go insane. He had only found one exception to that rule. There was once a female wolf capable of handling his venom. Beautiful and spirited. Leviathan chuckled as he remembered her struggling to escape from him. Unfortunately for him, and her, she was dead. No matter. He would survive for now. He had other plans in the works anyway. He would be able to create a suitable partner soon enough. For now, he would just have to sustain himself off the women in his coven. As he was thinking of which vampires he should call to his chambers next, he got a phone call. Growling in annoyance he smashed the answer button and brought the phone to his ear. "What the hell do you want? It better be good or I promise there will be hell to pay!" "Uh..uh good evening sir." "Florence. What the f**k is it?" "It's Asmodeus sir. She has decided to come to the Red Room to celebrate her birthday in two days." "You told me she never goes there. Are you lying to me? You know what I do to liars...don't you?" The voice on the other end of the voice let out a small whimper before continuing. "I'm not lying, sir! She never goes there. I'm not sure why she has decided to, but I do know she's bringing Dimitri in from Russia!" Leviathan hissed into the phone. Dimitri had been a thorn in his side ever since he was turned. Although he was younger than Leviathan he was undeniably strong. A fact Castiel never let him forget. "What the hell is he doing here?! He hates the States." I'm not sure. Asmodeus probably called him in for extra security during her celebration. Perhaps to see if she can finally drag him into her bed. Not matter. It's fine. We will stick with the plan. Worst case scenario we ruffle their feathers at the Red Room and then the minute Dimitri leaves we strike. He never stays for long anyway." Leviathan stroked his chin thoughtfully, mulling over Florence's words. She made sense. Sighing into the phone, he decided to follow along with her plan. "Okay, Florence. I'm trusting you on this one. You know what happens to those who betray my trust don't you?" He could hear the nervousness in her response as she meekly replied, "I understand sir. And I hope you know, that betraying one's master's trust is a dangerous job. I hope one day I can make myself at home in your coven." "In due time Florence. In due time." As Leviathan hung up the phone he chuckled darkly to himself. There was no way in hell Florence would ever have a home in his coven. He would not suffer traitors in his house. As soon as she served her purpose she would be gotten rid of. No more, no less. Now that had been taken care of, Leviathan wanted to turn his attention back to his bigger problem. Growling frustratedly he left his room and paced through the halls. If he couldn't find someone to quench his thirst in that way, he would just have to hunt for a different type of excitement. Motioning to one of his subordinates he muttered, "Call the Deep Woods Coven and let them know I plan to visit tonight." "Right away sire. But...." Leviathan stopped so abruptly the younger vamp ran into his back. "But. What." "T-t-that coven is on Asmodeus' territory. Won't she be notified of your appearance one of her covens?" Leviathan whirled around, grabbing the vamp by the throat and slamming him into the wall. "Listen fool. I didn't turn you to think for me. I turned you to do what the f**k I tell you to do. If you can't do the one thing I need you for, why do I have you?" "I understand sire. It won't happen again." Leviathan nodded in agreement, seemingly placated. "Damn right it won't." The vampire let out a nervous smile right before Leviathan ripped his head from his body. "Elyza! Come clean this s**t up." A young female vampire appeared from the shadows and promptly removed the dead vamp's heart from his chest, and carried the corpse to the cremation room. Leviathan continued down the hall, cursing internally as he dialed the number to the Deep Woods Coven's Viceroy. *** Castor "Gabe, we've had some reports from the Blue Crescent pack that there has been an increase in vampire attacks along the border between our pack and theirs. You and I need to go on a patrol in that area tonight. We'll leave Desmond in charge while we're away." "Cas. That's forever away. And it's super close to vamp territory. How do we know that Blue Crescent isn't just trying to get free security because their wolves are lazy?" Castor rolled his eyes and clapped his best friend on the back. "Gabe, you might be right. But still, they're our sister pack. We've had an alliance for as long as I can remember." "Yeah, and if your stalker, I mean ex-girlfriend has her way, yall will be even closer than that." Castor rolled his eyes. Melina was the worst mistake he had ever made. She was originally the Blue Crescent Alpha's daughter, but her mate was one of the top warriors of River Moon, so she became part of Castor's pack. Unfortunately, her mate died in a vampire before they were able to complete their mating bond. Since she was accepted into the pack already, Castor let her stay. And that was the beginning of how he met his stalker. He still couldn't believe that he had fallen for her, regardless of it being a drunken one-night stand or not. "Listen Gabe. Melina was a one-time mistake I would love to forget. It won't happen again. I have no intention of making her my mate, even if I never meet mine. She is not my type." Gabe wrapped his arm around Castor's neck. "That's my guy right there! Stay the hell away from that loony wolf. She smells like death." Castor bust out laughing but immediately had to straighten up because there were two warriors walking their way, faces grim. "Alpha, we are ready to join the extra security detail run for the Blue Crescent pack. We have three more wolves ready to go." Castor cleared his throat and nodded, his no-nonsense Alpha personality securely back in place. "Good. Go make sure the Tahoes are all gassed up and ready to go." "Tahoes? Oof. Why can't we take any of the fancy cars Cas?" "Because Gabe, this is a security detail, not a formal visit on Alpha business. If we run into trouble I would much rather lose a few busted Tahoes than my new Range Rovers." Gabe sighed and made his way to the garage. "You're nothing if not practical I will give you that." *** A few hours later Castor and Gabe were standing in front of Blue Crescent's packhouse. Their alpha, Walter Callahan, had informed them he would meet them out front and take them directly to where the attacks had taken place. After a few minutes of impatient waiting, an older man--maybe early 50's--made his way out the front door. In spite of his age, he was still fit and in good shape, and with the aura he carried it was easy to see why he was still the top wolf in his pack. "Castor, I appreciate you taking the time to come out here. It's never easy to lose pack members, and the ones we've lost recently..." Here Alpha Callahan trailed off, and his eyes flashed gray, showing that his wolf was just as upset about this as he was. Castor put his hand on his shoulder and squeezed lightly. "I understand Alpha. We will do our best to find the vamps that did this and make them pay." Callahan nodded, before continuing. "I figured what with all that's happening over at River Moon, you might be able to offer some insight to our issues here. Enough jibber-jabber. Let's shift and head out there." With that, both Castor and Gabe removed their shorts, their shirts preemptively left in the car. Werewolves in general weren't shy about nudity because every wolf has busted out of their clothes at least once or twice on accident. Castor and Gabe shifted quickly, with the extra power their ranks gave them speeding the process along. After a minute they were both standing on all fours, shaking the tension from the change out of their fur. After grabbing his shorts in his mouth, Alpha Callahan took off, his wolf Brutus speeding off into the night. Castor and Gabe did the same and took off after him, easily keeping pace but hanging back a bit out of respect. It wasn't long before Enzo started to growl. What's wrong? I smell death and rot. This is where the wolves were attacked. Sure enough, Brutus had begun to slow down to a gentle lope, before stopping completely near a patch of trees. On cue, the three of them shifted, the tense silence giving way to every movement made. "I'm sure your wolves told you, but this is where it happened." Gabe and Castor locked eyes before surveying the field in front of them. The moon shone brightly, illuminating the grass that had been painted red. "How many were killed?" "Six," Alpha Callahan responded bitterly. "Two of the women were pregnant. The men tried to fight off the vamps but there must have been a lot of them. By the time we got here, the men were completely drained, and the women had strange track marks in their arms." Castor nodded grimly. "That's the same as what happened with our victims as well. The issue is, what are the vamps doing and why do they need our pregnant women to do it?" A horrible thought suddenly crossed Enzo's consciousness, but Castor couldn't let it go. Enzo, say that again. What if the vampires are trying to make a hybrid? It would make sense that the women have track marks. It's a sign of the venom being injected into their bloodstreams to mutate the baby... Castor cleared his throat and relayed Enzo's thoughts to the group. Alpha Callahan growled deep in his throat while Gabe just cursed. Callahan cleared his throat and made eye contact with Castor. "We can't ever let an abomination like that be born Castor. I can only imagine what those bloodsuckers would do with a vampire-werewolf mutant." Enzo growled low in his throat at the unspoken challenge Walter was issuing. Castor soothed his wolf but didn't break eye contact. "I understand where you're coming from, but if one is born, I will not harm it. They will still be part of the Moon Goddess' plans, and no one should interfere with that." Castor was even more determined to find the vamps responsible for this terror and put a stop to it. No matter what.
