Kaden’s Pov

I make it back just in time for the meeting. At least 225 Alphas had responded to our request. Some have already arrived. I mind link Oak letting him know I am here and to meet me backstage.

The auditorium is a large place used for concerts or plays for the city. It has enough seating for 1000. It is the perfect place to bring a bunch of Alpha wolves to watch their reactions. I will be able to see them all and the ones I don’t, well Oak, Nina and Elaina will watch for anything out of the usual too I think to myself.

As the wolves gather some begin talking and I use my wolf hearing to listen to some of their conversations.

Mostly they just want to know why they were called here for a special meeting.  

Oak arrives and shortly after Nina and Elaina walk in, all coming straight to the backstage area where we prepare to go on the stage to announce there has been a kidnapping.

Kaden, Nina says. I was thinking back to when Amy died today and how I picked up on the scent. You and Amy were close, “Yeah we were close” Where are you going with this Nina. Just hear me out. It’s just a theory, but I think I am on the right track.

Some people if they didn’t know you and Amy may have thought you were together. As a couple. “We weren’t” Yes, Kaden, I know that and so does anyone close to you but someone from the outside may not have seen it that way. “Ok Yeah, I guess that’s possible.” Ok. So you and Lexi were spending a lot of time together. She was even staying at your house. “You think someone is taking them because they think we are together?” I don’t know. Kaden, it just seems weird that twice now you have a female in your life and twice something bad has happened to them. I think it is entirely possible they are taking away what they think you care about.

I think about her words before I go on stage to address the kidnapping. I decide it is probably best that I don’t tell everyone she is my mate just yet. Just in case the one who took her is here. I will treat it just as it is. A kidnapping of my employee. I hate the thought of not letting all these unmated people think she is free for the taking. But I don’t see another way to keep her safe if the kidnapper thinks she is not my mate, he finds she is useless to him and let her go or god forbid get rid of her as he did Amy. I can’t tell them anything, I have to make something up quick.

Shit! I say to Oak; I have all these Alphas and now I don’t trust any of them to help me keep her safe. If they think I care for her, they will kill her to hurt me, if they think I don’t care for her they will kill her because they can’t hurt me with her death. Either way, she ends up dead. Just as I finish my sentence I see Lisa walk in. I am glad you could make it. I need you to agree to everything I say out here. I grab her hand and walk to center stage.

Good evening everyone, thank you for taking the time to meet with me this evening. I just wanted to announce that Lisa and I are hosting a ball. To celebrate! What are we celebrating? One of the Alphas yells. Our engagement, I tell them with a bright smile. I look at the girl by my side and all I see is her mouth wide open. Smile, I whisper to her. She gets into character quickly. Hopefully, no one saw her shock.

 Yes, please excuse me. I am still a little shocked by all this, and she waves her hand around the room. I am human as most of you know. I am a little nervous about the mating rituals where I will become one of you.  So please excuse my behavior just now and please join us for our celebration next Saturday at the Civic hall on the town square. She squeezes my hand, knowing it will be near impossible to get the civic hall on that short of notice, or it will cost me thousands. She smiles sweetly at me and whispers just so only I can hear; I want a new dress too. She lifts her eyebrows at me.

Kaden, Alpha Black stands. Why not just send out invitations we all have better things to do then meet with you because you are engaged?

Now is my time to let them know why they are really here. Well, the fake reason they are here.

“That’s where you’re wrong, Black. I wanted all of you to see her. Get a good look at her and never look at her again. I will kill anyone who even thinks of disrespecting her. Do you all understand?” I ask.

For fear, my wolf will show they all agree and at that I end the meeting.

Thanks Lisa for not ratting me out up there. I will let Nina fill you in on why we had the sudden change of plans. She pats my back knowing I am falling apart and walks toward Nina who reaches for her as a sister would.  

You have now put her in danger too; you know? I turn to find Ellis standing behind me. “I don’t plan on letting her out of my sight.” Ellis chuckles, that makes two of us. I look at him confused, Lisa has been in my bed every night for the last month. I don’t plan on that changing soon.  “You and Lisa, huh?” I shake my head as the memory of Lisa running to her car crying. “Ellis, if you hurt her I will kill you.” I say.

Look Kaden I can understand why you had to lie to all those Alphas I can see the danger. But using Lisa as a pawn in the game only put her in direct danger. Now we need to figure out a way to make this look good and with no one knowing I am in the shadows watching her.  

We? Ellis; I don’t think so. We will have each other killed in a matter of days. I say, running my hand through my hair. “Oh, come one we used to be pals.” Yeah until you rejected my sister and broke her heart, I should have killed you right then but no, I had to let you live to be a thorn in my ass.

All I am interested in is keeping Lisa safe and finding your true mate so I can have mine back. I look at him, shocked.  Yeah, Second chances and all, I got a human. “You had your first chance mate and decided she wasn’t good enough for you”. You know that’s not why I rejected Nina.

“I don’t know why you rejected her, Ellis. I do know you hurt her and for that I will never forgive you”.

Look Kaden, maybe you should talk to Nina about why I rejected her and why she accepted it. I think it would make much more since to you if you let her explain it to you. But right now we need to come up with a plan to find Lexi and keep Lisa safe. “Your right for a change, that’s exactly what we need to do”
