I Won't Hurt My Family Pt. 4

Blade said, “Few days.” I shrugged, “I changed my mind. I’m going to tell her what the situation is.” Blade said, “Hard not to kill.” I laughed, “She’s Eric’s mom. I can’t kill her.” Blade said, “Blade can.” I smiled, “Being a b***h isn’t a good enough reason to kill her. She’d never betray Eric….so that’s not going to work out of there either.” I walked into the hospital. I saw Ethan. He frowned, “Did you get hurt?” I said, “I’m here to see Cassandra.” Ethan’s eyes went wide, “Alright. She’s in the same room. Nathan just left.” I nodded and walked into Cassandra’s room. Blade stood at the door. I asked, “Why are they keeping you here Cassandra? You’ve healed.” Cassandra’s eyes shot over to me in surprise. She quickly hid it. She said, “Nathan is being an Alpha about it.” I nodded, “That’s not surprising.” Cassandra snorted, “You’ll know if you ever get knocked out. My son will be a hovering Alpha male.” I said, “It’s hard to knock me out.” Cassandra said, “Don’t I know it.” I said, “We need to coexist here. You don’t have to like me, but if you could drop the complete and utter contempt…. that would be great.” Cassandra huffed, “I worry about my son. My husband thinks your perfect and so does my son.” She snorted, adding, “All my sons do. You’d think the sun shined out of your ass.” I titled my head, “You're jealous…. of me. Why?”              Cassandra startled. I shrugged, “You hide motivations from a fairy Cassandra. I know you're jealous. It just doesn’t make sense. You want to keep your secrets, that's fine. It’s ironic because it just makes you just like the people you claim to despise. Your problem with me is my fairy side. My brother Arion would follow you around and list off all the ways I’m not like a fairy for fun. It annoys him because he worries my lack of selfishness will get me into trouble. He’s not wrong either. It does. I am who I am though. I don’t apologize to anyone for it. Not my Arion, not a single member of my family, and I certainly won’t apologize to you for it. You don’t think I’m mature. Fine. You don’t think I can help Eric lead this pack. You’re wrong but fine. I’m here. I’m not leaving his side. I’ll be his Luna the second he wants me to.” Cassandra said, “But not his wife.” I snorted, “Jesus Christ, lady! When you met me, you said Eric and I were moving too fast. Now you’re pissed because we aren’t married. Will you pick a damn speed? Also, look me in the eyes and say Nathan took you dinner before he marked you. I bet you were marked within fifteen minutes of meeting him. So I’m pretty sure I beat you on that front.” Her cheeks burned.          She said, “The mating ceremony is a tradition.” I said, “Good for you. My people’s tradition is to be together at least a decade before getting married. Why are your traditions more important than mine? Because you say so? New Flash Cassandra. I could give a s**t less what’s important to you. Eric and I will discuss our future, and it will have nothing to do with you. It’s none of your business quite frankly. For all you know we could be engaged.” Cassandra said, “You aren’t wearing the ring, so you’re not engaged.” Only because I’d worked with Bjourn on hiding my surprise did my face not show it. Eric had a ring. AN ENGAGEMENT RING? Already? My surprise and elation were confusing.          I was really surprised about how happy I was that Eric had a ring. Shouldn’t I be panicking? Did I want to get married? I could not think about that right now. I felt Eric’s confusion about my emotions. I sighed, “Be that as it may…. you are just looking for a reason to dislike me. I got over the disappointment of my own mother’s apathy towards me. You will not be a problem for me. I am only here because this between us will hurt your son, who is the love of my life. The other half to my soul. So shape up Cassandra. I won't take your disrespect. So put your pride aside and treat me with kindness. I will do the same.” Cassandra said, “Eric doesn’t want to see me, so I doubt you will see me.” I snorted, “I bet you’ll walk around acting the martyr long enough that someone will convince him to speak to you. You are his mother. Being a b***h to me doesn’t change that. I won’t stand in your way of a relationship with him. Do me the same courtesy. Stay out of my relationship with him. I will never seek your council and you only have yourself to blame for that Cassandra. We could’ve been fine. You’ve made a judgment about me without ever having met me. You didn’t even meet the other reality me. That must be quite lonely for you. It’s not a good way to live.”          Cassandra said, “You’re judging me.” I said, “No, I’m telling you it must be lonely to live that way. I’m not judging you based on absolutely nothing. I’m judging you based on your actions. You jumped on me for sending Molly away because you just knew what happened. I’m not someone who needs all the glory and credit. I protect people. It’s in my blood and my heart. I’ll even defend you if you ever need it. I can wipe the slate clean with us. I can pretend the hurtful few encounters we’ve had are behind us. Can you?” Cassandra said, “I would like to. I can’t say I don’t worry about you. You do have fairy blood.” I said, “Whatever. I’d try to reason with you saying there are bad members of all races. They each have traits that are undesirable, but you're prejudiced against fairies. I can’t change that. I’m not even going to try. I will say that when Eric and I have children if you so much as say one and I do mean ONE snarky comment about their fairy side…. I’ll lay you out so fast your head will spin. I WILL ask Eric to make sure you NEVER see them again. You can hurt me all you want, but you will NEVER hurt my children.” Cassandra frowned, “I would never say that about my grandchildren.” I said, “Good. I’ll try to give you some space to think about this.” Cassandra said, “I think Eric will guarantee it.” I shrugged, “Sounds like another personal problem of yours that I don’t care about.”          I walked out of the hospital. Blade said, “Princess too nice.” I shrugged, “She’s Eric’s mom.” Blade said, “Wolf angry.” I said, “He may very well be angry with her, but he loves her.” Blade shrugged. He whirled when we heard a pop. I squealed, “BEX!” She smiled, “I just had to come see my little cousin! Faerie is aflutter about you calling on your brothers. Arion is telling the tale of how you sparked Aiden’s ire so that his wings appeared. Everyone is talking about it.” I laughed, “I’m surprised you didn’t stay for the parties Bex.” Bexley shrugged, “Meh. It sounds FAR more exciting here with your cousin. Things seem to happen around you all the time. I’m beginning to think I should move to this realm. Your dad would’ve NEVER let me move to the Hackura realm, but now you’re here with your mate and I have my chance to be in all the action.” I laughed. She continued, “I hear Kujo runs this pack, but he’s your mate. He’ll listen to you when you tell him I’m fabulous and fun to be around.” Blade tensed. I frowned, “Blade?” He stood in front of me as several wolves appeared. I linked Eric, “Umm….” Before I could finish the wolf in the front growled. He shifted back as Eric ran out of the dungeons. The man looked at Bexley. She gasped. He growled possessively, “MINE!”
