Chapter 3: Reality Breaks

The next morning, Kai wakes up from his deep slumber thoughts of Kim Mi-Soo still on his mind, “Morning! Kim Mi-Soo.” Says Kai to himself and the first thing he do before getting off the bed is take out his phone and scroll through the pictures of Kim Mi-Soo, how can someone be this beautiful? Kai is mesmerised by her beauty, after admiring Kim Mi-Soo from her pictures he slowly gets up from the bed and goes to the bathroom to get dressed for school, Meanwhile downstairs his mother Fujiwara Yuki is preparing breakfast for her beloved son “I hope Kai likes it.” She smiles as she stirs the food in the pan before turning off the stove. After fifteen minutes Kai finally appears from his room wearing his school uniform and walks down stairs towards his mother, “Good morning mama!” says Kai to Yuki before wrapping his arms around her for a tight hug. “Good morning, my dear! Did you sleep well?” asks Yuki to Kai before returning his embrace wholeheartedly, Kai nods to her answer and smiles back. “I did mama! Thanks for asking.. So what’s for breakfast?” asks Kai in an interesting tone to Yuki to which Yuki chuckles softly before turning her attention to the food she has prepared, “Oh dear! For today I have prepared Pancakes along with whipped cream and honey.. And also orange juice” she says this to Kai before keeping two plates of pancakes on the dining table, “Thanks mama!” says Kai before sitting on the chair and begins to eat his breakfast along with Yuki, throughout his breakfast Kai was thinking about Kim Mi-Soo and due to his a faint blush creeps onto his cheeks, Yuki notices this and clears her throat in a playful manner, “Seems like you’re thinking about something, Kai!” says Yuki in a playful tone before taking a bite of her pancake, Kai almost chocked on his bite as he hears these words coming from his mother’s mouth. “Umm! Mama! I.. I’m thinking about that’s K-Pop idol I told you about Kim Mi-Soo.” Says Kai in a soft tone before taking the last bite of his food before looking at his mother with his emerald eyes shining bright when he thinks about Kim Mi-Soo, listening to this Fujiwara Yuki takes a deep breath before she finishes her own food and looks at Kai with soft smile, “I get it my boy!” she says this and looks at Kai with a concerned look in her eyes as if she is trying to hide something from him, Kai notices this change in demeanour of his mother and thinks to tackle the situation head on, “What happened mama? You seem worried about something! Tell me.” Asks Kai to his mother Yuki, to which she smiles softly and look at him with a gentle and caring smile, “Look Kai! I don’t want to make you sad, but the thing is you thinking about that girl Kim Mi-Soo isn’t healthy for you.” Says Yuki in a gentle tone trying to make her point clear, as Kai hears this he knows that his mother is right but still he can’t help but feel attracted towards Kim Mi-Soo, “I know you’re right, mama! But.. I don’t know why but it feels so warm when ever I think about her.” Says Kai before looking at his mother with a soft smile, Yuki nods to these words before reaching across the table to hold Kai’s hand, “I know my boy!! But I want the best for you, don’t think too much about her, I don’t want you to get obsessed with something or someone with whom you cannot be with in reality. I hope you understand.” Yuki says this to Kai before releasing his hand and looking at his eyes for reassurance, Listening to this Kai nods his head in agreement before getting up from his place, “I know mama! Don’t worry mama! I will try not to think about Kim Mi-Soo anymore! I’m going school mama! See ya later!” Kai says these words to Yuki before he take his bag and slings it on his shoulder before leaving his house leaving Yuki behind, “I hope he does the same.” Sighs Yuki before she busies herself in the household work.

Meanwhile on his way to school Kai was thinking about Kim Mi-Soo before his thoughts were interrupted by Park Seo-Ah, “Oye dummy! What you thinking?” says Seo-Ah in a playful tone before slapping Kai’s shoulder playfully, to which Kai chuckles softly and turn to face her, “where is Lee Do-Yeon?” says Kai to Park Seo-Ah before they both start walking towards the school, Seo-Ah shrugs nonchalantly before speaking to Kai, “won’t be coming school, he is going to his grandparents today.” She says this before walking through the school hallway towards the classroom, “I see! He’s gonna have fun.” Says Kai before taking his seat in the classroom and sitting right next to Park Seo-Ah in the classroom. Hearing these words Park Seo-Ah nods before looking at Kai, “Yup!” she says this and chuckle softly, “Seo-Ah! Can I ask you something?” says Kai to Park Seo-Ah before looking into her eyes with his emerald eyes looking tense, “Of course Kai! What’s it tell me!?” says Park Seo-Ah in encouraging tone and looking at Kai after taking a deep sigh Kai looks at her with a gentle smile and speaks, “Is Kim Mi-Soo single?” he asks this to Park Seo-Ah in a nervous tone to which Park Seo-Ah bursts out laughing and looks at Kai before wiping her tears of laughter, “Oh my!.. Is it really you, Kai?” she says this teasing tone before looking at him, “Please tell me, Seo-Ah!” says Kai in pleading tone to which Seo-Ah raises an eyebrow playfully before deciding to answer her friend’s question, “Well! Yes she is single why do you ask, Kai?” says Park Seo-Ah to Kai and as soon as he hears this relief floods through his whole body before he looks at Park Seo-Ah, “Well don’t laugh okay! But.. I guess I have fallen for Kim Mi-Soo.” Admits Kai in a shy tone, hearing Kai’s confession Park Seo-Ah chuckles loudly before giving a mischievous grin to Kai, “Oh look what we have here! The boy who used to hate K-Pop is in love with biggest K-Pop idol, Kim Mi-Soo.” She says this in a playful tone before adding in a more serious tone, “But seriously Kai, do you really think Kim Mi-Soo is going to be with you? I mean who are you according to her? She doesn’t even know you.. For her you are just one among her million of admirers. She barely will acknowledge you Kai. I don’t want to hurt your feelings or sentiments related to Kim Mi-Soo but still I care for you as a friend and I’m giving this advice to you as your childhood friend, don’t think about her it will only hurt you emotionally.” Hearing Park Seo-Ah’s words Kai goes silent as if someone has lifted the veil of reality in front of him, It is true that Kim Mi-Soo doesn’t even know about Kai’s existence and it’s also true that Kim Mi-Soo won’t acknowledge Kai but this is also true that Kai has fallen head over heel for Kim Mi-Soo, throughout the school time Kai wasn’t able to think anything else but words of Park Seo-Ah were echoing in his mind like a ultimatum.

After coming back from school, Kai had his dinner in silence and went to his bedroom while lying down on his bed, Kai looks at his ceiling and thoughts of Kim Mi-Soo and his own reality goes on his mind, “Who am I? Why will she acknowledge me? She can get anyone she wants.” Kai says this to himself in a sad tone as reality dawns upon him like a breaking stone, Kai turns off the lights of his room before he goes to sleep with all these lingering doubts in his mind. Kai was far away than the dreams he has seen about him and Kim Mi-Soo, in reality Kai wasn’t even someone whom Kim Mi-Soo knows, and this ‘Reality Breaks' on Kai like a thunder storm shattering all his dreams and hopes in one go.
