The morning sun shone into the cave as two sharp cries came from two hungry little mouths. The babies’ cries woke up the weak mother who was still in pain from the birth and the full moon. Her body was a mess of sweat and blood. The cave itself stank heavily of blood. The girl whimpered as she tried to move, the pain between her legs was making itself evident, but that did not stop her from crying out in joy when she saw her babies. They were cute and beautiful. They had black hair with a silver-white stripe and blue eyes which must have been inherited from their father. Everything about the points out to their father. “Darling,” she looked up with a smile and saw her mother. However, the smile did not last long because she knew- her mother is leaving and this time it really will be forever. “Mother!” she sobbed “Shhh. Don’t cry, all will be fine” She wiped her daughter’s tears “You’ll be fine child. Look, you have two priceless treasures, they will lead you to the man that will give you a home and take care of you forever.” “Mother-“ “Goodbye, my love.” “Nooo!” but it was too late. The woman faded away completely. After settling the hungry little ones, she struggled to a lake to give them and herself a bath. Afterwards, she laid each of them in a basket made of twigs and flowers. They had to leave. She could feel the witches attacking her protection layer. Their new targets have been born, they surely will go all out to find her and take the babies. The moment the sun disappeared, Countless witches stopped in front of the cave where the children had been born. One of them touched the dried blood on the floor, then rubbed it between her fingers and scented them. “They’ve been born!” she announced, “Our preys have seen the world.” Several cheers rose in the night as the witches continued their search. The girl continued walking despite the pain in her body. She ignored her body’s reluctance and continued with two baskets in each hand. However, it seems her strength has been used up. After stumbling for the third time, she had no choice but to stop and rest. “Don’t worry babies, you’ll be fine. We will all be fine” she assured the children as she fed them, but it sounds more like she is comforting herself. While feeding her son, she noticed the mark on the left side of his chest. She had seen the same mark on him while washing them but now she saw it clearly, it is the shape of a crescent moon. Whatever the mark means she knows it will make his father recognize them as his children. The moment she placed the second baby into the basket, she felt their presence. “Girl be good and give us the babies. Don’t you want to be free? If you give us the babies we’ll let you go.” “In your dreams” she scoffed, “I’m not giving up my children.” She had a feeling that they were casting spells ready to attack her and braced herself. They attacked and as she expected, none of their spells touched her or her babies. A wave of pain racked through her entire being taking her unawares; “Please, not now” she whimpered. How could she have forgotten that today is her last day of pain? Seeing that she has little time, she created waves of dangerous flies towards the attackers. The moment they placed their focus on the flies, she creates a barrier and ran off with her babies with all her might. Suddenly, she began to feel weak and dizzy, ‘No, no please, I can’t stop now,’ but her body was not listening. She placed the baskets on the ground beside each other and before she could look around, her legs gave beneath her. As she slipped out of consciousness, she cast a barrier around her and the babies. One that only the blood of the babies can break, probably their father.
