I pull Cami closer to me not trusting anyone while she is with me. Perhaps bringing her along was a bad idea on my behalf. I may have joked about killing everyone and escaping with her but now it looks like I might actually do that if s**t hits the fan.
“The military personnel set up in the township. They think themselves too high and mighty to live in the forest with the rest of us.” The wolf sneers at us and his gaze travels over our clothing. “So the guy in the suit makes sense if he is an auditor and obviously the scary abyss demon is the muscle but what's with the fairy?”
“Pixie.” Cami corrects automatically and the wolf growls at her.
“Only dark sprites live in the demon kingdom. You are an outsider, or defector?” His comments are both curious and insulting and I feel the chain of self control rattle throughout my brain.
“I'm just here to help.” Cami says quietly.
“No more questions. You are not authorized to know the answers.” I practically spit the words at him and his attention finally shifts off Cami.
We follow them to a township built into one of the forest clearings. Trees and foliage cover the area making it a very cute little village. The only downside is the houses falling apart and the men milling about performing various acts of stupidity. Some of the fake soldiers are shooting arrows and bolts at the trees while some are roasting meat and drinking their weight in alcohol. These things seem like normal stupid soldier activities. The thing that sent my blood boiling was the noises coming from the houses. Too much crying and moaning for my liking.
“Not yet sis.” Gaels’ hand falls on my arm as I am about to step past him. “Five more minutes. We need to be informed of the situation first. The people in the huts could get hurt.”
“Fine. Five minutes.” I lock my body in place and fight against the rattling chain in my mind. The Wolf Therian looks at me with a questioning look before schooling his features.
Gael strides forward with confidence directly into the centre of the towns. All the fake soldiers stop what they are doing and look towards him. Some of them touch their weapons, their fingers getting itchy and the chain in my head rattles so loud I wince.
“Hello gentleman. I was wondering if I can talk to your commander? It is a very important message from the king.” A few of the fake soldiers had drawn their weapons and were aiming them at Gael. The situation was getting unbearable in my mind and Gael must have sensed something as he turns his head to look at me and shakes it ever so slightly. “The king is asking for an update on the situation here in the lowland forest.”
A fabric door hanging over the entrance to a large house is pulled aside and a man walks out buttoning his pants. He is a demon over nine feet tall with the more common bull horns and dark purple skin. He isn’t wearing a shirt or shoes, although he has hooves so that could be why, and his ugly face had a beautiful scar running through it.
“Everything is going well. However, why does the king suddenly have an interest here? We haven’t seen anyone since the first company left.” This man was obviously in charge only for his muscles. Anyone with a brain would know we aren’t here for a report.
“We received a complaint. A citizen reported a false military occupying the forest taxing the citizens. It would be nice if you could produce your royal crest.” Gael smiles politely and one of the men on the side loads his bow.
“Of course.” The man pulls what looks like a royal crest from his pocket and shines it towards us. “May I ask who made the report. Perhaps my men could help you search the surrounding area.”
“You may.” Gael pulls out the paperwork he had folded into his pocket. “Geraldine Bane. And we would appreciate the help.”
The hooved demon looks behind us at The Therians and his eyes settle on someone with fire. I turn and find a Therian Panthera woman step forward with her head high. That answers my little mystery of how the report reached us. She is definitely fast enough and strong enough to get the message out without being caught.
“Go on. Look at me like that. I know you aren’t real military.” The wolf guy steps forward and attempts to pull her back into their number but she shakes him off easily. “Don’t stop me. The real military sent by the King was kind. They helped with the infestation and they healed people. You guys just take all the food and hurt us.”
“Ma’am, do you have any evidence to support your claim?” Gael askes as politely to her as he was to the fake soldiers.
“Sure.” She strides forward and with the force of a bulldozer she smashes open the wall of a house on the side.
My flames stand on end at what I see. Three demons stood in front of a therian woman who was lying facedown on the floor. Their weapons are drawn but their pants are still around their ankles. The woman was badly beaten and so obviously abused I couldn’t even tell her type of therian. A man behind me could however.
“Becca?” His whisper is heart breaking and my chain finally snaps.
Faster than any of these creatures can comprehend I leap at the commanding demon. Before he even sees me I grip his horns and twist his head so violently his entire spinal column follows it out of the hole that was previously his neck. When I stand from where I had landed behind him the world is so quiet you could hear a pin drop from miles away.
“Three seconds to lay down your weapons and surrender.” The clattering of weapons sounds unanimously and I look back at the Therians, “Get the people from the houses out here.”
Like a wave people begin moving and I watch as the abused men and women are carried from the houses and laid down in a row to be triaged. When Geraldine exits the main house with a child no older than twelve the anger I am already feeling increases to the point where my skin begins to itch. My beast side wants to escape and destroy everything around me. I can't let that happen so I punt the demon's head off into the distance and walk over to where Gael had the fake soldiers lined up on their knees. Crouching low onto all fours, mimicking the Beast within, I crawl along the line carefully smelling each one. My tail flicks violently at each smell of rot that accompanies an abuser.
When I reach a small fragile looking demon I stand and pull him with me. I drag him over to the other side of the walkway and drop him in front of the broken house. Dark magic drifts from my hands to create a chain connecting him like a dog to a post. Leaving him sitting there I walk back across the space letting loose my demonic aura as I go. Gael joins me and as a unit we eviscerate the scum before us.
Only when we had finished did I begin to feel a little better. I look over at Cami and I’m glad to see she has gotten busy healing the citizens. I was once again covered in the blood of my enemies and It had not even been a few days since I returned to Alfheimr. I keep my eyes averted from the last remaining scum to avoid the killing instincts running through my veins. I want to desperately separate his head from his body however as he is the only one of the fake soldiers who hadn’t smelt of fresh blood or s*x I chose to keep him alive for interrogation.
“Hey Wolfie, come here.” I snap my fingers at the wolf Therian and he obeys with a shocked look on his face. I know deep in my mind that I am being a little high handed but the bloodlust hadn’t worn off yet and I was trying so hard to reattach my chains. “Take me to the crops.”
“Yes.” He begins to lead the way but I stop him with a wave.
“Cami baby, I will be right back.” She looks up at me with a deep sadness on her face but nods the affirmative. I look at Geraldine with a little too much menace and she flinches. “If a single strand is out of place on her head when I return…” I let my voice trail off and the Panthera Therian nods enthusiastically as her face unconsciously hisses.
I wave the Wolf on and he once again starts walking with me following close behind. Gael takes stride beside me and we stay silent until we reach the first crop clearing. Gael examines the ground with a frown and lifts granules between his fingers.
“They just salted it. If it was poison the healing process would be harder.” Gael steps to the centre of the field and raises his hands. His dark green magic flows around his hands and I watch as grooves form along the ground in long rows. At the lowest edge of the field a ditch forms and then he stops. “Anyone able to use water magic here? I’m not proficient enough to cleanse the soil.”
“Yea, the Pixie. I could smell the magic on her.” My back straightens when he says those words and I shift my gaze to him.
“You can smell magic?” I ask as politely as I can manage.
“Only when it's been used recently.” He says while barely masking his fear.
“Sounds nice.” I don’t need to worry I haven’t wielded my other magic for three years.
I turn back the direction we just came from desperate to be near Cami again. When I enter the village most of the injured citizens are healed enough to sit up and function. Cami’s face is covered in a light sheen of sweat and I immediately feel bad for letting her help.
“Baby, you almost done?” I ask her kindly, my voice softening just from being near her.
"I have healed the life threatening injuries, anything else they can visit a healer for; it won't kill them to wait and I am really tired.” She wipes the sweat off her face with her shirt and despite the c*****e around us the small glimpse of her stomach is enough to make everything else fade away.
“Come here.” I hold out my hand and despite the blood still coating it she takes it. I pull her close and lean down to her mouth. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
I kiss her deeply until she begins to relax and the second she does I allow my dangerous magic to swirl through me. It enters her body through our contact and she shakes like she is being electrocuted. She struggles to pull away but I hold her in my embrace until I'm finished guiding the magic through her blood stream. When it's finally done I let her go.
“What was that?” I almost expected her to scream but instead she just sounded sad.
“It was important. I need your help with some water magic and you were exhausted from healing so many people.” I whisper the words low so only she would hear them. I lean down and rest my head on her shoulder, closing my eyes against her glowing skin, she doesn’t pull away.
“I will allow it this one time. But next time, ask first.” she says the words calmly but I can feel her breath tremble.
“Okay, I promise.” Taking her hand I lead her away from the town to the field Gael and Wolfie stand in. “Unless it's an emergency.” I have no choice but to add the clarifier. I know if she got hurt I would not restrain a single ounce of my magic.
We enter the clearing and Wolfie's head pops up like a jack in the box. His snout twitches and his eyes widen until he resembles an owl instead of a dog. His gaze locks with mine and I can feel his fear from across the field.
“Better watch that nose puppy.” I mutter the threat at him and watch as his ears flatten, his tail tucks between his legs and the hair along his spine stands up. “Keep my secret and we will be friends.” His snout wiggles again and he nods enthusiastically. Smart dog.
I look over at Gael as he explains what he needs from Cami and we spend the rest of the night cleaning the fields. The pools of salt water are collected by Gael and Cami and stored in a magic vase. When we are finished we return to the town and see the citizens off. They are returning to their homes inside the forest and I'm happy to hear no one lives in the town. Makes my next job much easier. I use my dark demon magic to lift the corpses and viscera into a pile.
“Drop that into a hole.” I tell Gael and he does. He also shifts the bloody sand into the hole to make everything easier for me. “Take Cami and that thing into the forest I will join you in just a moment.”
Gael nods and drags the scum away with Cami and Wolfie trailing behind. When I can no longer hear them I smile and unleash my dangerous magic. A crack so deep it spills magma forms in the earth. I pull the magma from the depths of Alfheimr and watch in satisfaction as it destroys the entire town. Houses, corpses, trees and weapons disappear like they had never existed. When everything is gone I cool the magma and close the crack of earth. The ground was now a mound of blackened igneous rock.
I leave the area and follow Cami’s scent until I catch up to them. Wolfie had stayed with them for some reason and I frown deeply at the sight of him.
“I am sorry to be so forward, however I would like to come with you. I never had the chance to apply for work at Darkness Gate but I have always wanted to work for the King.” He smiles and the way his snout moves has me thinking of golden retrievers. “Also, I get the feeling you will be less likely to kill me if I'm close by.”
“Well that's the truth. Sure. Are you prepared to get carried like a puppy?” I ask him to test how much of my bullshit he could handle.
“If you must.” He says a little cautiously.
“I must.” I look over at Cami who is swaying on her feet. “Come here baby.”
When she follows my instruction without a word I smile happily. She is definitely the cutest woman I have ever met. I lift her into my arms and wrap her legs around my waist. She curls her arms around my neck and rests her head on my shoulder. I hold her with one arm then walk over to the wolf man. Simultaneously releasing my wings and grabbing a handful of his scruff makes him startle.
“OH.” he says in a weird singsong voice as he eyes my leathery wings.
“Silence is golden” I say in warning and he mimes zipping his mouth closed. A weird action to watch happen to a wolf snout.
I look at Gael and he has the scum held in his hand by my magic restraints. The scum was tensing his muscles to stop his arms from popping out of their sockets. I can feel the evil smile spreading across my face so I look away. We take off simultaneously and move across the skies at a responsible pace. It would look bad to rip the skin off the wolf's face if I move too fast. When we arrive back at the castle we land at the front door again. The guards bow low and open the doors.
“Majesties. Welcome back.” They say politely and I drop the wolf. His legs fail to support him and he falls to the dirt; after a small struggle he manages to stand again.
“I don’t like flying.” His statement is matter of fact and I smirk at his dishevelled fur.
“You will get over it. Guards, get this man a guest room on the lower levels and be sure to lock the door and provide food.” Looking back at the shocked wolf I smile, “We will talk tomorrow. I don’t have classes until the afternoon.”
“Yes Princess.” The chorus of replies is from both the guards and Wolfie.
“Cami,” I ask as I pat her hair gently.
“Hmm?” she mumbles sleepily.
“I need to visit my pets, I promised them. You wanna come or do you want me to take you upstairs to bed first?” She just snuggles closer and holds on tighter as a reply. “Guess you are coming with me then. Gael, Lock up that scum but have him watched. If he tries to kill himself, hogtie him.”
“Sure thing Sis.” Gael says before walking off with the scum.
I walk over to the pen where my new creatures now lived and they start making scary noises at my approach. All nonsense noises stop when I enter and they all stare at me with expectant eyes. I had a dog when I was in the human world and he would also give me this look whenever I was gone for too long.
“Did you guys miss me or something?” I ask as I walk towards the cages. I open each of the cages but none of the creatures move. When I sit on the floor in the central area I pat the ground beside me. “CALMLY, come here.”
They all walk out very slowly and sit in a circle around me. None of them dared touch me but they still wouldn’t disobey. I was the scarier monster after all. I sit calmly cradling Cami while I wait for the creatures to relax around me. The poison serpent is the first to relax curling itself into a snake pile and resting its giant head beside my thigh. The fire and water serpents follow its lead; curling up and relaxing. The bugbear, hippogriff and two chimeras settle a little further away from where I sit while the four horse types stand around us. Only the two hellhounds, one black and one red, avoid the group settling together against a far wall.
“Wow, they listen to you so well.” Cami’s muttered words have me smiling down at her.
“Yea well, they probably know I could eat them all if they don’t obey.” Her eyes go wide and I nuzzle her cheek to calm her, “I won’t though.”
“Good. I like the MultiHorn. We only have Unicorns in the Seelie kingdom.” Cami stares with awe at the impressive creature. The MultiHorn looks up from where it was relaxing and flexes its ears towards Cami. “They are too fancy for my taste with their pastel colours and attitudes. MultiHorns look both beautiful and dangerous. Imaging having three sharp spikes that can disembowel a man yet still being as shiny as the clouds. And yours is such a pretty shade of blue.”
The MultiHorn carefully pushes its way through the other creatures until it can reach Cami’s outstretched hand. I’m impressed with its temperament and when the approving noise rumbles through my chest all the other creatures perk up and start paying attention to the MultiHorn.
“It likes you.” I state the obvious to Cami just to watch her happy smile. “Perhaps once I have finished training him, he can go with you. I’ll even teach you how to care for him properly.”
“I would like that.” Cami stops petting the MultiHorn and cuddles back into me with a sigh. “I am so tired.”
“Let’s head to bed then.” I stand and the creatures move out of my way. “Back inside the pens. I’ll let you all out for longer when I come in next.”
They move to their pens and I release a wave of dark magic to close their gates. Still carrying Cami koala style I head up to my room. Letting her sleep on my bed settles the primal part of my soul that is becoming attached to her. She falls into a heavy sleep the moment her head hits the pillow so I leave her sleep while I head to the kitchen.
My eyes witness a scene I wish they hadn’t when I enter the kitchen and I cough loudly as I choke half to death. Darcy’s small thick body is spread on the table while my father devours her p***y. Elizabeth and Noelle kneel on the floor simultaneously eating his man parts and they all stopped mid lick to look at me when I walked in.
“I need food.” My eyes are closed yet the image of my father and his wives still burns behind my eyelids.
“Sure, we are covered now.” My fathers voice is husky and gross. I feel the bile rising. No child wants to witness their parents' s****l activities.
Carefully I open my eyes and sigh in relief. The area surrounding them is now thick with dark magic concealing them from view. As quickly as possible I pull items from the fridge and run from the kitchen. When I return to my room I make a sandwich and erase the last five minutes from my brain. Why couldn’t they just use their bedroom and save me from this trauma. Crawling into bed beside Cami I pull her close and fall into a deep sleep. Breakfast the following morning is awkward; mainly because whenever the mothers make eye contact with me they smile and giggle.
"Ok stop it." I shouldn't have spoken because now my father is also laughing and I just want to crawl back into bed.
"Um, good morning." Cami's voice sounds behind me and I turn to greet her with a smile.
"You hungry?" she nods and I pull out the chair beside mine for her to sit and eat.
"Pixie's eat the green s**t don't they?" Logan asks impolitely.
"I actually eat anything. My father is Fae after all. Only Mum's a pixie." Cami says matter-of-factly and I'm happy to see her talking comfortably with my brother.
"Oh yea. Your the Seelie kings youngest. I heard your castle is made of actual crystal. How hot must that be." Logan is as outspoken as ever and I want to hit him.
"My Mother is a princess of the Ice Pixies so the castle is cooled magically for her comfortability." Cami smiles as she replies to Logan and the urge to kiss her is almost overwhelming. As they continue to talk about her life in Mayhem Castle as a Seelie princess I polish off multiple plates of bacon, eggs and pancakes. I look up from my plate when a soft tinkling noise sounds throughout the room. At the same time Cami pulls the Alfheimr version of a cell phone from the pocket in the top i let her borrow..
"I have to go. My Mother wants me home for a Garden party in the afternoon." The boys and I all gag at the thought of a garden party and then laugh at the comical way things worked out. "They aren't that bad actually. I get dressed up and eat cake. It's fun if you ignore the pompous political bullshit."
"Did you just swear?" I ask incredulously and Cami's skin glows across her cheeks. "Damn. That's pretty hot you know?"
"Shut up." She stands from her spot on my lap and looks at my father. Not directly at him but more at his shoulder. "Can you lift the sifting ward for just a moment. I don't want to use a gate dressed like this and Atreya Mysteriously lost my uniform."
"Yep. Must have been moths or something." Actually I tucked them away in my draw. I plan to slowly build up her clothes at my house so when she stays over I have clothes ready and available for her. Genius.
"Yes she will probably use your panties to wank later." Logan remarks from across the table and I toss a piece of bread at him with a smile. Cami shines brightly with embarrassment and my father laughs at our antics.
"Sure thing." Dad stands form his chair and I watch as he shifts from handsome human to intimidating demon. Each of my brothers shift as well and the mothers pull weapons from hidden places on their person. When my father waves his hand I feel demonic magic tingle along my senses.
Cami hovers off the ground and plants a kiss on my cheek before disappearing in a swirling puff of glitter. I have barely a moment to consider how handy that ability must be when a group of Elvin looking people with blades, and dressed like movie ninja's, appear before us. Demonic magic tingle across my skin once again as dad puts the barrier back in place and I watch in awe as the mothers and my brothers shred the intruders in seconds.
"Ok. whose free to train with me?" I ask when all the fake ninja's lay dead on the floor. They all look up and smile at my astonished face. "I need to be up to standard you all just made me look like an over power child."
"I have the day off today love, I can train with you." Elizabeth says with a smile. "I trained the boys and even taught your dad a thing or two."
"Sounds good. Let go." I walk out of the room to get changed. It's safe to say I'm a bit nervous. Elizabeth was trained by the assassins in the Blood Sect territory. The elite guard of the Vampire Nobility. I have the feeling she is about to wipe the floor with my puny fighting skills.
