THEANNOUNCEMENT

1010 Words
Morning came too quickly. Xolana barely slept. The contract she signed the night before sat on Kyro’s glass table, a quiet reminder that her life had officially crossed into something irreversible. There was no going back, not to the girl who believed in love without conditions, and certainly not to the family that had shattered her trust. Now, there was only forward. And forward meant war. The Devereaux Group headquarters stood tall against the Lagos skyline, a symbol of power, wealth, and legacy. By the time Xolana stepped out of Kyro's car, the place was already buzzing. Word had spread. Fast. Employees whispered. Heads turned. Phones were discreetly raised. Because walking beside Kyro Devereaux, calm, composed, untouchable—was the woman who had humiliated his brother at the altar less than 24 hours ago. And now? She looked like she belonged at his side. Kyro didn’t slow down as they entered the building. His presence alone parted the crowd, his confidence commanding attention without effort. “Stay close,” he murmured under his breath. Xolana didn’t hesitate. “I’m not the one who needs guidance,” she replied quietly. A faint smirk touched his lips. “Good,” he said. “Because today won’t be gentle.” The Boardroom The room was already filled when they walked in. Executives. Board members. Stakeholders. And at the head of the table, Mr Devereaux. To his right sat Darius, visibly tense. To his left, Sanaa was perfectly poised, but her eyes burned the moment they landed on Xolana. The air shifted instantly. Kyro walked in like he owned the room. Xolana followed like she owned her place in it. “Nice of you to join us,” Mr Devereaux said coldly. Kyro didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he pulled out a chair for Amara. A simple gesture. But intentional. Strategic. Public. Xolana sat. Then Kyro took his place beside her. Not across. Beside. A statement no one could ignore. “I’ll get straight to the point,” Mr Devereaux continued. “There are rumors circulating—ridiculous ones—that need to be addressed before they damage this company further.” Kyro leaned back slightly. “They’re not rumors.” Silence. Darius slammed his hand on the table. “You’ve lost your mind!” Kyro’s gaze shifted lazily toward him. “Control your emotions. You’re in a boardroom, not a playground.” Darius clenched his jaw but said nothing. Kyro stood. Slowly. Every eye followed him. “Effective immediately,” he said, his voice calm but commanding, “I am resuming my position within this company.” Murmurs erupted. “You were removed!” one board member protested. “I stepped down,” Kyro corrected. “There’s a difference.” “You have no authority—” Mr Devereaux began. “I do,” Kyro cut in. He placed a document on the table. Legal. Binding. Signed. “Majority shares,” he said simply. The room was still. Xolana felt it again—that shift. Power. Real power. Mr Devereaux’s face darkened. “You think this is a game?” “No,” Kyro replied. “I think it’s overdue.” Then, He turned slightly. And reached for Xolana’s hand. This time, it wasn’t subtle. It wasn’t quiet. It was deliberate. Possessive. Final. “I’d also like to make another announcement,” he said. Xolani felt every gaze lock onto them. Her pulse rose. But her expression? Unshaken. “I will be getting married,” Kyro continued. A pause. Then— “To Xolana Brooks.” The explosion was instant. “That’s insane!” Darius snapped, rising to his feet. “You can’t be serious,” Sanaa added, her voice tight with disbelief. “After everything?” Xolana stood this time. Not behind Kyro. Beside him. “I’m very serious,” she said calmly. Darius laughed bitterly. “This is revenge. Nothing more.” Xolana tilted her head slightly. “And if it is?” she asked. “What exactly are you going to do about it?” That shut him up. Sanaa stepped forward, her composure cracking. “You’re making a mistake.” Xolana met her gaze. “No,” she said softly. “You already made yours.” The tension in the room was suffocating. But Kyro? He looked completely at ease. As if this was exactly where he wanted to be. “Prepare for the press release,” he added to the room. “I want it out within the hour.” “You don’t get to control everything!” Chief Okoye barked. Kyro turned slowly. His expression darkened. “Watch me.” Outside the Boardroom The moment the doors closed behind them, the noise inside faded—but the intensity didn’t. Xolana exhaled slowly. “That,” she said, “was dramatic.” Kyro glanced at her. “That was necessary.” She studied him. “You planned all of this.” “Yes.” “And the marriage announcement?” A brief pause. Then— “Yes.” Xolana shook her head slightly, almost amused. “You really don’t leave anything to chance, do you?” Kyro stepped closer. Not too close. But enough. “I didn’t survive this family by being careless.” Their eyes met. And for a second— Just a second— The world outside disappeared. Then— “Kyro!” Sanaa’s voice cut through sharply. They turned. She stood at the end of the hallway, her expression no longer controlled. It was raw now. Angry. Desperate. “You think this changes anything?” she demanded. Kyro’s gaze was cold. “It already has.” Her eyes shifted to Xolana. And what burned in them now wasn’t just anger. It was something darker. Dangerous. “This isn’t over,” Sanaa said quietly. Xolani didn’t flinch. “I know,” she replied. A slow, chilling smile touched Sanaa’s lips. “Good.” Because for the first time— The game wasn’t just about revenge anymore. It was about survival. And someone… Was about to play dirty.
