Jim was able get me on a flight to a secret airfield outside Vihn which was near the CIA agents based in the region. The leader brought me to their outpost adjacent to a French base. Once we arrived he said, “The communists attacked the French a few days ago. They were repelled after viscous fighting. We’re not sure how long they can hold out.”
“Why hadn’t we gotten this information? It’s mission critical! How many are in Vihn?”
He simply shrugged which let me know the cover up on how poorly the French were doing was in full swing. He said, “A few hundred at least and the French are running low on ammunition.”
