Prologue

“Can you please sign it?”

Is this real? By signing this contract, I would officially become the wife of Dashiel Alarcon. A man I despised. A man I never wanted to live with.

“Ms. Shanika, I am asking you to sign the marriage contract.”

For the sake of the company… I will.

“Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Alarcon. Best wishes on your marriage,” the attorney said.

“Thank you, Shan. You saved our company,” my father said after I placed my signature on the paper.

“I hope we will have a great partnership, Mr. Cortez,” Mr. Daniel Alarcon said as he shook my father’s hand.

“Of course. I’ll do my best for this partnership,” my father replied.

“We are done. Let’s go home,” he said in a cold, emotionless tone.

“Fine. You can go home now. Shan, you’ll be with Dash,” Mr. Daniel said.

“Take care,” my father added.

“Fine. We need to go. Let’s go,” he said, tightly holding my hand.

As I walked away with him, only one thought echoed in my mind—

I hope I survive this journey with a cold-hearted man.
