The sounds of plates and cutlery marked the royal dinner table as Richard, Lorraine, and Lavern sat down to eat; the three of them all in different frames of mind as they did. Richard, sitting at the head of the table as was customary someone of his position in the family and the great kingdom, consumed his meal with normal appetite; concentrating most of the time on recounting to Lavern who sat to his right the events that had transpired during the course of the day. The older Winchmore, on the other hand, only heartily devoured the meal in front of him without saying much in return, just nodding every now and then to show the king that he was listening. But unlike the duo, Lorraine, who sat to Richard’s left, made no motion at all to suggest that she was even present in the environment
