The hours between lunch and the end of school dragged on endlessly. Avery found it hard to concentrate on anything. Every time she caught a glimpse of Max in the hallways or during class, her mind would wander, wondering what he was thinking. But she couldn’t afford to dwell on it. She had made a decision to go on the date with Lucas, and that was what she was going to do. Still, there was a nagging feeling at the back of her mind that she couldn’t shake. The final bell rang, and Avery grabbed her things quickly, eager to get home and prepare. As she walked through the crowded halls, her thoughts were scattered.
