PAINFUL MEMORIES

Tears trickled down both our eyes and I was too shocked to offer neither her nor myself a tissue. I abruptly stood up. “I-I have to go,” I said as I dashed out of the apartment. How could he act okay after going through all that? Alexander, you i***t! I enter the apartment only to be greeted by a solemn atmosphere. My mom sat on the couch, arms folded with her eyes on the TV. Aunt Gina stood in front of her, arms folded with an intense glare directed at her. She looks pissed and I’ve never seen aunt Gina look this pissed. “What’s going on?” “Thank God you’re here Claire please help me talk some sense into this woman.” “What happened?” “Do you know the person she went on a blind date with?” “No.” “James Kelvin Rivers.” I feel my blood run cold when I hear that name I turn to my mom. “Is this true?” She looks away from me. “After all he’s done to as you are still willing to forgive. That same man who disgraced you called you an unfaithful wh*re in front of friends and family. That same man who has brought you nothing but pain and suffering. That same man who called you a filthy old hag as he walked away with another woman and threw divorce papers in your face. That same man who nearly made us beg for a living on the streets if it wasn’t for aunt Gina. That man? …Answer me! Tell me this is a lie.”  I was shaking her shoulders violently while screaming with tears. She pushed me away and got up. “Don’t even think about advising me on the relationship. That bastard has put you through much. Yet you still forgive him.” “Don’t you dare compare Alexander to that disgusting scumbag,” I scream in a high-pitched voice, my eyes flooding with tears? “Why shouldn’t I tell you the truth? It’s about time you heard it. Every time he hurts you cry and come home like it’s the end of the world. Then you forgive him. That bastard murdered my grandson without a second thought for your life yet you went ahead and forgave him, even went as far as to have his child again then what do you do huh? You come running back home. I am sick of your nonsense.” She screamed right back.    I just stood there in shock. She went this far just for that sick excuse for a man. The only words I uttered were “If you were sick of me you should have just said so.” I turned around and went into my room and began packing my things. I closed my suitcase a dragged it out of the room. I was about to leave when I heard a voice telling me to hold on. I turned my back and found Max dragging his own suitcase towards me with his headphones resting around his neck. “I’m coming too!” he declared. I chuckled and ruffled his hair. "What an unfilial child." I heard another suitcase being dragged towards us. I looked back and saw Aunt Gina dragging along her golden suitcase towards us. “Well are we going or what?” I chuckled and opened the door the last thing I saw was mom slumped on the couch with her face in her palms then the door closed. It broke my heart but she had to know that we would not stand by and watch her ruin herself because of that man for the umpteenth time. We got into the car I partially stole from Alexander. He was right in front of me when I took it so yeah, partially. I drove us all the way to the hilltop mansion hoping Alexander is not around. The guard immediately recognizes the car and allows us to enter. I breathe I sigh of relief when I am informed of his departure. Then it hits me what mom said earlier “even went as far as to have his child again”.My head snaps to Aunt Gina and her giggles. She knew.   Alexander’s POV I slightly opened one. An annoying soul with a smile and a shine in his eyes. I click my tongue and returned to self-brooding. So this is what a man with a broken heart looks like. “Shut up Owen,” I grumble and turn to my side. “Oh dear, this room is a mess as your relationship.” He continues to tease me but I ignore him. Well then let’s get cleaning. He tosses cleaning material to Liam, Oliver, and Adrian. Chomp, chomp let’s get to eat. They all sigh and get to cleaning. Blocking out the sound of Owen’s clean-up song I drift to sleep. I am woken up by a bunch of stuff dumped on me. “The f*ck?” I got up and realized it was a towel and soap, Owen’s face once right in front of me and he had a look of death in his eyes. “Now the only thing that needs cleaning is you.” His smile was just horrifying. I knew better than to mess with a germaphobe like Owen so I reluctantly agreed. He wasn’t always like this. His germ phobia was just one of the many mental scars our time on that island gave us. I took a cold shower and came out with some shorts and a tee shirt only to get a disapproving look from Owen. "What?" I said with a hint of annoyance from his judging look.
