FIONA The Royal Cathedral occupied what felt like a dozen hectares of land to the western border of the palace grounds. It stood not separate but not entirely a part of the palace either. Almost as though it existed in a dominion all of its own. With one foot in the realm of the King, the other belonging entirely to the goddess, mystical and beyond the comprehension of our world. It was my first time being so close to its front doors and from the outside it was beyond breathtaking. Its towering spires pierced the sky like heavy arrows rising from beneath the earth. Their tips crowned with gold that caught the sun and burned my eyes when I craned my neck to look up at them. Its massive stone buttresses curved along its sides like ribs that held up walls of pale, purple marble vein
