Avalana’s POV I was reading a book when my phone vibrated beside me. I bookmarked the page I was reading and closed it. my little sister’s name flashed on my screen. I accepted the call. “Hey.” I smiled. “Hello big sis. How’s ya?” her voice ringed in my ears making me like I was home. “I am fine. How are you?” I asked. “All good. I actually needed your help with something.” She said. “What is it?” I asked, sitting up. “I need your black dress.” She said, almost nervously. “For what?” I asked, suspicion rising in my mind. “I just…need it. pretty please, I look so good in it.” she whined. “Who you trying to impress little girl?” I smirked. “Avaaaaa.” She moaned. “Well, I am not permitting you to touch my cloths until I know who is the person you are trying to impress.” I declared. “Fine.” I heard her sigh. “There is this….guy. I am going on a date with him.” She muttered. “And what is the name of this guy and where did he come from?” I egged her further. “School…” she murmured inaudibly. “aren’t you a bit young to go on a date Arianna!” I said in a firm voice. “Ugh. Don’t lecture me please. I really like this guy.” I could imagine her rolling her eyes. “Its my responsibility as an older sister.” I said. “Yea yea whatever. Can I take the dress now?” she asked in a bored tone. “no.” I simply said. “Why?!” she asked, annoyed. “Ask nicely. And the name of this guy, his age and where he lives. Then I will give you the dress.” I said. “You are a meanie.” She pouted. “Fine. His name is Seth. He is in my class. Please, now can I take the dress?” “Fine.” I said. “I am guessing mom, dad and archie doesn’t know about this?” I raised a brow. “No, they don’t. please don’t tell them. You know how dad is! He will threaten Seth.” She pleaded. “I won’t. But if anything goes wrong or if this guy troubles you, you tell me immediately.” I instructed her. “I will. Thanks, bye.” She said quickly and cut the call. I stared at the phone for few seconds and shook my head. I thought about my pregnancy and my parents. I had to tell them about it at some point. They weren’t going to be happy but more I delay it; more they will get hurt. The sooner I tell them, the better. I picked up the phone and called Anthony. “What?!” he barked as soon as he picked up. “Jesus Anthony. You don’t have to be so f*****g rude.” I rolled my eyes. “Why the f**k did you call?” he asked ignoring my comment. “I need to talk with you about something.” I said. “Can you come to Vince’s room when you are free?” “Fine.” He said and hung up. I went back to my reading until a knock sounded on the door. “Its open.” I said loudly to whoever that was outside. Anthony poked his head in and then entered. I sat up straight and scooted so he can sit. My cousin looked like he would be anywhere but not here. “You don’t need to look like you are in the jail or something!” I scowled. “Talk.” He said sitting down. “I need to tell mom and dad about my pregnancy.” I said. His eyes snapped to me. “Why you want to tell them this early?” he asked. “The more I keep this from them, the more they will be hurt. I don’t want them to find out when its too late. I have so many things on my plate, I don’t want to add to them.” I said. “Yes, but how do you think they will react when they find out.” He spoke, making it sound like it was a bad idea. “I have no choice, Anthony. I have to tell them. I cannot keep it from them forever. I am already bearing the hatred of many people as it is. It wont hurt to add a couple more to that list.” I supposed. He exhaled. “Do whatever you want. You created this mess now solve it. just tell me when you want to tell them. I will be there.” He said and got up. I nodded. Breaking this news to my parents was already making me shiver in fear. But the longer it took, the more it made me fear their reactions. But it also felt wrong to tell them something so serious over a phone. “I think I should go home for few days, to tell them. It feels inappropriate to them over a phone call.” I said looking at Anthony. He snorted. “You didn’t feel inappropriate when you got pregnant or when you shot Fiorella. This is what you feel guilty about?!” his cold taunt made me squirm. “No, I didn’t. now leave.” I said, turning blank. He left in at once leaving me alone with my thoughts. I made up my mind and decided to talk with Vincenzo about going back home for few days. I nervously knocked on the door and waited. Instead of hearing the usual ‘come in’ the door was opened by none other than Natalia. Her scowling face lit up with anger as she saw me. I raised my brows, silently asking what the f**k was she doing there. “Why the f**k are you here?” she spat venomously. “I need to see Vincenzo, move.” I said pushing her back and going in. “You bitch.” She hissed from behind. Vincenzo was focused on his work as usual. He looked up at me and then to fuming Natalia behind me. his face scrunched up. “I need to talk to you.” I said, ignoring the irritating woman behind me. When he didn’t say anything, I added. “Alone.” “I am not going anywhere you murderer.” Natalia commented furiously from back. I pursed my lips in anger and turned behind. “I was not talking to you. stop butting between other people’s business.” I said rudely. “Natalia. Leave.” Vincenzo said before she could retort. Her mouth closed and she clenched her jaw as she left. I turned back to Vincenzo. “I want to go back to USA.” He watched me empty eyes. My words hung in the air. The stubborn man in front of me didn’t even move when I expressed my wish. “Are you going to be like this until I leave?” I asked. No word. “Fine. I wasn’t asking anyways. I will book my own flight and fly to America.” I declared and turned around to leave. I almost made it to the door when I was pulled back. His familiar smell hit my nostrils. I looked at him with a frown. “What?” “I did not ask you to leave.” He said coldly. “Look, I am not one of your lapdogs Vincenzo to obey you as you please. I said whatever I came to say and now I am leaving.” I said calmly. He snorted. “Of course, you aren’t. my lapdogs are loyal, unlike you. I will allow you to go back, but only on one condition.” He stated. “What condition?!” “I come with you. there is no way I am letting you go alone.” He said. I sighed. I saw this coming, to be honest it was good that he was coming. I least I could show that the man that impregnated me has decency to meet my parents. “Fine.” I shrugged. I waited for him to let my hand go but he didn’t. I looked at him questionably. “Let my hand go.” I said looking at him. He was about to say something when someone came in. “Vince, we need to go to the hospital. Its Fiorella.” Luciano said frantically. Vincenzo’s jaw clenched and he released his hold. He became colder, if possible, like he was suddenly reminded that I was the root of all of his problems. “Get the cars ready.” He ordered and his brother left. “Get out.” He spat and looked away. Not saying anything further, I walked out of the room, slightly hurt. I knew it wasn’t going to be all rainbow and sunshine but it still hurt a lot. Wiping my moist eyes, I went back to the room. Vincenzo’s POV I left everything as it is and hurried to the waiting SUVs. Nikolai, Luciano and Felix were already sitting in the car. The driver began to drive as soon as I sat in. “What the hell is going on?” I asked. “Fiorella went through a seizure.” Nikolai said, clenching his fists. My nostrils flared in helplessness. My sister was fighting for her life and all we could was sit back and pray that she makes through it. Four of us rushed to Fiorella’s room. Doctors and nurses were already inside, frantically moving around. “What the f**k is going on?!” Nikolai growled out looking at the commotion. Then his eyes shifted to me and he fisted my collar, getting into my face. “Why the hell is that traitorous b***h in your bed Moretti?!” he asked with furious tone. “Why the f**k is she isn’t in the f*****g torture room?!” he screamed. “Get the f**k off me.” I grunted pushing him off me. “She is pregnant Vasiliev. I am not risking my child.” I said, equally furious. “Do you even f*****g know if its your baby?! It could be bastard of that Irish son of a bitch.” The Russian mob boss raged. My blood boiled at his words and I slammed him to the adjoining wall violently. “don’t you f*****g dare utter a word.” I snarled in his face. “Get the f**k off me.” he said pushing me. “I don’t f*****g care whose baby that is, if something happens to my Fiorella, I will murder your b***h in cold blood.” In a snap, the barrel of my gun was pointed at him. “Avalana is my woman, don’t you f*****g forget that. Nothing ahs been solidly proven yet. Don’t go on assuming things on your own. Say anymore derogatory things about her and I will see you in a war next time. I will f*****g make sure that you are out of my sister’s life.” I promised. “you motherfucker.” He seethed and took his own gun out, pointing it at me. “Calm down both of you.” Luciano said. He and Felix got in between. “Vincenzo, Fiorella is fighting with death as we speak, do you really want to do this?!” I lowered my gun and focused my attention on my sister. Things look calmer then before. I got distracted because of the stupid Russian. He glared at me as he stood beside me, looking at her. The doctor came out. “Il sequestro avrebbe potuto essere fatale se non fossimo arrivati in tempo. grazie a Dio siamo riusciti a salvarla. Le possibilità di sopravvivenza nel secondo attacco sono criticamente basse. (The seizure could have been fatal if we hadn't made it on time. thanks to God we were able to save her. The chances of her survival in second seizure are critically low.)” he said. “E adesso? (So, what now?)” Luciano asked. “Non c'è nient'altro che possiamo fare se non aspettare. La sua ferita sta guarendo ma il suo corpo è diventato allarmantemente debole, sospetto che non fosse in salute prima di essere colpita. (There is nothing more we can do except to wait. Her wound is healing but her body has gotten alarmingly weak, I suspect she was not in proper health before she was shot.)” he told us. “Puoi vederla ora. (You can see her now.)” he said and left. Nikolai rushed in as soon as the doctor left. We followed after him. She looked deathly pale and sick with all the wires and tubes hooked to her frail body. Nikolai was silently staring at her, his hand held her hers in a gentle grip. I had never seen the brooding man so vulnerable in my life. It reminded me of myself when Avalana was shot. My jaw clenched as my thoughts wandered to her. “He really loves our fratella.” Luciano said, standing beside me. “What do you think about Avalana?” I asked and turned to him.
