The Second Mistake

"You left your medical bag and your gift," he murmured as he pointed at the items he dropped on my table. "You shouldn't be here, Alpha," I whispered, but he kept quiet and continued looking at me. As our eyes remained locked, mine slowly narrowed as memories came rushing back. Ryker Jace. My best friend. My childhood playmate. The one who taught me everything I knew about wolves. The one who stood beside me when my mother wasn't there to guide me into adulthood. He was always there whenever I stumbled, always the first to defend me. He had always been my safe place. My vision blurred as tears filled my eyes. One escaped, then another, rolling helplessly down my cheeks. I pressed a trembling hand over my mouth to stop the sobs, but they refused to stay buried. "RJ, I don't know what I did that made you push me away. Whatever it is, please tell me. I'll apologize. I'll do anything." "As an outcast in this pack, you're the only friend I've ever had. Three years of your silence, three years of pretending I don't exist, it's been like living in hell." I swallowed hard, struggling to breathe. "I know I was only eighteen when we first mated. Maybe I wasn't the woman you wanted then. But I've grown now... I'm no longer that young naive girl." My lips quivered so badly I could barely finish. People might call me desperate. Maybe they were right. But Ryker wasn't just any man to me. This was the boy who helped raise me. The boy I laughed with, cried with, and trusted with every secret in my heart. When I had my first menstruation and was frightened, he stayed by my side until I stopped feeling embarrassed and learned everything I needed to know. He had never been a stranger to me. He had been my family. My home. My everything and I was his moon. "RJ..." “Alpha Ryker,” he corrected me coldly. My lips closed immediately. He never got mad when I called him that; in fact, he loved it, just as I loved it when he called me his Moon. So what changed? I asked myself again. "Arya, we need to talk," he said. I knew that tone. It was the same tone people used before delivering news that changed lives forever. If he broke my heart right now, I had absolutely no one to help me pick up the pieces. I turned and hurried toward the door. I didn't want to hear the horrible truth he had come to tell me. "Arya!" He shouted and intercepted me in a heartbeat. His arms locked around my waist and anchored me to the spot. While keeping me pinned against his warm body, he gently uncurled my desperate grip from the door handle. I wanted to struggle, but I couldn't. Part of me loved the way he held me against his chest as he reached past me to lock the door. As soon as he locked it, he spun me around with a fierce, possessive hunger, crashing his lips onto mine in a kiss that stole the remaining air right out of my lungs. I guess the physical contact made him lose control of himself. I could feel years of starved hunger for mating in the ravenous way he devoured my mouth. I was so hungry for him too. Even though a part of me wanted to push him away, I couldn't do it. I wanted to be mad about seeing Malia in his bed, but I just couldn't fight this. This closeness and intimacy were exactly what I had wanted from him for years. He had been so far away, but now that he was close, I couldn't resist him. We had starved our desires for too long, and now, the sheer hunger made it impossible to think straight. I could feel his desperate hands working on the zip of my gown. I knew it wasn't just about kissing; he wanted mating, and he wanted it so badly that his entire body was vibrating with primal need. Then, in one swift motion, my gown pooled at my feet. He swept the desk clean, sending papers and trinkets clattering to the floor. He lifted me onto it. His hands spread my thighs apart with possessive force. His erect c**k surged into me and filled me completely. I gasped and my breath seized. Ryker let out a long breath, like a warrior who had finally returned home after years lost in the wilderness. His arm was a steel band around my back, holding me in place as he drove his c**k deeper into my wet body, each thrust hitting that sweet, aching spot inside me. Our mouths never parted. His tongue plundered mine while his free hand kneaded my breast, pinching my n****e just hard enough to make me gasp. Wet, slick sounds filled the room. Years of pent-up longing spilled out of my wet body in a flood. My body was his, responding to every rough stroke and every desperate grind. He drank in my moans and swallowed the desperate pleas of my body begging him not to stop thrusting me. The only sounds in my office were the obscene slap of his balls against me, the drag of his c**k out of my wet body and the ragged rhythm of our breathing. He hadn't slept with Malia. I could feel it in the way he moved, in the way his body trembled. It wasn't the desperation of a man who had just been with someone else, but the overwhelming need of someone who had been starved for six long years. Hours bled into one another. His body moved like a storm, relentless, until finally, he shattered. Hot c*m flooded my body. It was thick and scorching, and my walls clenched around his c**k, milking every last drop. My body convulsed, waves of pleasure crashing over me as he buried his face in the crook of my neck, his breath ragged against my skin. I could feel the love he couldn’t voice. The way his arms tightened around me, the way his heartbeat hammered against my chest. I didn’t rush him. I let his c**k stay buried inside me, my body clenching around his c**k, refusing to let go, drawing out every shuddering aftershock. Minutes passed. Then, without warning, I felt him harden again, his length thickening inside me. This time, his movements were slower, deeper, his c*m making every glide slick and sinful. The friction was exquisite, each thrust sending sparks through my nerves. “I love you, Ryker,” I gasped, the words torn from me. The four words ignited his entire body. He moved faster, his teeth grazing my neck before his mouth crashed back onto mine, swallowing my cries. The room filled with the sounds of our bodies again. It was wet, frantic and desperate. Warmth coiled low in my belly, spreading through me like wildfire, and I knew, without a doubt, that this was more than lust. This was love, raw and unfiltered, burning between us until the world outside ceased to exist. As he tried to pull his body out, I held him tight, as if my life depended on him. He remained calm again. I couldn't let him go because I didn't know the next time I would be this close to him again. "Moon," Ryker whispered. I slowly took my hand off his waist. As he pulled his manhood out of my body, the sudden cold felt like a physical blow. He retrieved my gown and dressed me in complete silence, before lifting me down from the table. He reached for his shorts and pulled them on. I waited for a confession, an explanation, or a plea for forgiveness. Instead, the room remained suffocatingly quiet. Three years of agonizing distance, and this silence was all I got. He opened the window and stood there, staring out at the rain pouring heavily over the pack grounds. The cold air rushed into the room. Realizing he had no intention of breaking the ice, I did it for him. “You’re aware that I’m your mate, right?” “I’m aware,” he replied without looking at me. “So, what are you doing with Malia, and what truth does she want you to tell me?” I asked. “I made a second mistake,” he whispered. “What do you mean?” I asked.
