17 A sudden cry from above. Morgan looked up as a figure tumbled from the shoulder of Christ, a dark shape silhouetted against the sun, his features obscured. “Jake!” Morgan couldn’t help his name escaping her lips. Her heart beat faster as the body hit the concrete below the statue with a sickening thud. Aurelia stopped struggling in her arms and they stood for a moment, both of them waiting in a beat of silence for the truth to unfold.
