002 : Genie Of The Locket

479 Words
Author's Pov He was cursed to live for eternity. To watch others before him move on to the next stage of life. The genie of the locket syncs itself with reality. He slowly looks to the window, the tips of his hair moving in motion. Fingers curling the duvet beneath his fingers, he let's out a sigh. It's been so long since he's last been summoned to the outside world. How long exactly? Probably fifty years. From the interior of the house, to the distance honks he picks up from a distance, he knows it's been a while. Things have changed. Probably for the better. The genie drags his fingers across his hair, grabbing, before tugging it with a clench of a jaw. Then he flickers his eyes to look at her again. After the girl collapsed, he couldn't just leave her on the ground. Something about her just brought a wave of emotions and this sudden urge to protect her. It's exhausting. But also unexplainable. And without knowing it, his body reacted on it's own. He ended picking up the girl before gently placing her on her bed. Even in the her sleep, the locket remains firm in her grip. He runs his fingers across the ocean of his hair once again, sighing with pensive sadness. It only feels like yesterday when everything was going all right. When cherry petals flew everywhere as they sat on the peaceful field. He still had the person of his wishes between his arms, smiling down at her with every love he can give. But now, that'll only ever be a memory engraved in his heart. He notices a lone tear escape to cascade down the girl's face. She shifts under her duvet, squinting her eyes as sadness contours her face. Something about the sight rings a familiar memory within him. When the love of his life had to sleep with tears simply because of him. The situation was complicated back then. Betrayal had fallen between them. So heart broken, he wanted to bear the pain alone. She lefts out a trembling sigh, letting out a tight whimper. He wipes her tear away, gently gliding his thumb across the curve of her face. He's not the faintest surprised when she suddenly lean into his warmth. Then a downhearted smile falls on his face. He thinks of Mira again. Time had really passed. And the person before him is evidence enough. Too bad an entity like him always failed to appreciate the beauty of life anymore. And it's all thanks to this stupid curse. Mira had already moved on. She finally had a family she always wanted. Something he knew he wouldn't be able to give her. His features tightens and a solemn look takes over once more. The promise he made before, to her. He'll pursue it. And this time, he'll succeed.
