Whimper

339 Words
“f**k” I said hitting the junk that is my car. Guess I shouldn’t have bought a used one or from that shady ass car dealer “just my luck” I look up and scan my surroundings thick trees to the right of me, thick trees to the left of me and a long road ahead. “ Well this is depressing” I sigh and crouch down why does nothing I do work? Why is there always something I have to fix something I have to make right? I’m so tired maybe… “stop it stop stop it” I say hitting my head “deep breath … and breathe out…hoof” I lean my head on the car a few minutes pass and I hear something I think it’s a whimper I wait a few beats and there it is again I put my hand to my ear to locate the sound and start walking towards it “ wait this is how people end up missing ” … whimper … “oh what the hell I’ll just run real fast” yep that’s sounds like a good plan I walk and glance behind to make sure I don’t go too far from the road and head towards a fallen tree trunk, look inside and see an injured puppy “Hey, buddy” I say in a squeaky voice but he doesn’t acknowledge me I don’t think he heard me so I reach in and scoop him up and he keeps on whimpering “shush, shush it’s ok it’s ok I got you” I couldn’t see him clearly in the shadow of the trunk but now I see bites, claw marks on his side that are infected and he’s running a fever. “You need a vet like yesterday” I glance towards my car “well she’s no good” I’ll have to come back for it later so I lock it and wrap the puppy in my jacket Guess I’m going for a run
