6. Stop Talking to Him.

2183 Words
"Adrian… Adrian Featheringham…” With hesitation, I answered. I had a feeling there was something going on between these two men. Otherwise, Ayaan won't be as startled when he sees Adrian that day. Also, the way they spoke to each other suggested that they had a rivalry. “Adrian Featheringham...” Ayaan said it again, his gaze fixed on the phone screen. I was truly afraid when I saw how furious and worried Ayaan was at the time. “Answer it,” he murmured as he swiftly gave me the phone. I responded, "I'll call him later," since I didn't want to talk to Adrian in front of Ayaan.  Adrian doesn't usually call me every day. He had to phone me right now and cause me unneeded trouble. “I asked you to fu**ign answer it!!!” Ayaan screamed at me. What's the matter with him? What does he think of him? How can he demand me to answer my phone? “Zuri... Don't turn me into a monster! Pick up the phone! ” He was gripping my wrist with his fingers and threatening me this time... If I don't pick up the phone right now, I'm not sure what he'll do. Irritated Ayaan is someone with whom I would never want to interact. Ayaan shouted at me again as I was going to pick up the phone... “Place the phone on speaker!” This is really absurd. He's blatantly invading my personal space. He is not my boyfriend, or at the very least one of my friends, to become involved in my personal problems. Yet I took the call and turned the speakerphone on... “Hello...” Adrian’s voice raised from the other side. “Hello….” I answered, trying my best to stay calm. “How are you, Zuri… I was so busy last few days, couldn’t find time to talk with you.” he siad apologetically. There is no reason for him to give me excuses for not being able to call me. We don't have any sort of arrangement or relationship that requires us to phone each other every day. But I didn't want to say anything in front of Ayaan about any of it. I just wanted to end this conversation. I was having a great time with Ayaan... He was revealing a side of himself to me that I had never seen before. It's incredible how quickly everything shifted following Adrian's stupid call. “It's all right, Adrian. You are a prince. You are free to be busy.” I stated. “Yeah... However, I did miss hearing your voice. Has anyone ever told you, Zuri, that you have a lovely voice? It's shame your parents didn't allow you to participate in that reality program. You stood a good chance of winning.” I laughed out loud. “You haven't even heard me sing...” I said. “I don't want to listen to you singing… Even the way you talk… It's a tune for the worn ears of others...” I chuckled once more and turned to face Ayaan... Ayaan's eyes were filled with rage as he stared at me. But wait... Isn't that more than simply rage? Was there a glimmer of envy in those blue eyes... I was feeling a little mischievous at the time... I wanted to make sure Ayaan was truly envious. It won't be a crime to play with him a bit because he is always playing with me and hurting me. “Adrian, you know... You're the first person to say that, and I'm flattered...” I stated it in a seductive tone... “I can tell you so much more about you, Zuri... I'll be the first to tell you all of that...” My heart began to beat faster as Adrian spoke... What is this nonsense he's talking about? “Like what?” Knowing I was playing with fire, I inquired... “Has anyone ever told you that you are like a book? A really good book.” It made me laugh out loud when he stated... “A book?”   I inquired, my gaze also falling on Ayaan... There's no question that mighty prince Ayaan is jealousy right now... Thank you, God! What a delight it is to see this jealousy in his eyes. It was also incredible to have him feel this way because of me... “Yeah, it's a good book... I've only read a few pages of this book so far; there's a lot more to read. However, based on what I've read so far, this book has the potential to really captivate me. It has the ability to make me joyful, confused, sad, furious, and all the other feelings at the same time... ” Adrian's tone of voice made me flush... I was getting shivers listening to him since his voice was so alluring... I couldn't even look Ayaan in the eyes... The few times, Adrian called me we never reached a topic like this… Our conversation was limited to just usual things….He's sounding a lot different today, and I'm starting to think he's trying to tell me something... Something that I am not ready to hear right now... Maybe I dragged this out too long... It is better to end the conversation and speak with Adrian at a later time... “You've turned into a poet, Adrian...” I said a smile on my face. “Anyway, I'm working on something right now. Is it okay if I call you later? Or would you call me when you have some spare time?” I inquired. “Ah!” Certainly, sure... I don't have a lot of work to do today. "  Adrian said, "You may contact me anytime you're free." “Okay, then… Talk to you later...” I said. “Yeah... " Before I hung up, he said, "Take care of yourself..." I stared at the floor for a few more seconds after the call was severed... Ayaan remained silent... But I could tell he was breathing heavily... I stared him in the eyes as I raised my head... His gaze remained fixed on my face, and his entire face had flushed crimson... His eyes were filled with a variety of emotions... Jealousy, for one... Why does he become envious when I speak with someone? He doesn't have to do anything with me. Right then I remembered what Chelsey said the other day. Is Ayaan really cares about me?  We were both just looking into one other's eyes, not saying anything... To speak the truth, I could stare into those blue eyes for the rest of my life... That's how much I adore his eyes... But, with all the thoughts racing through my head, I was feeling quite perplexed, and I wanted to tell him to leave me alone. So that I can think freely... After a few seconds of stillness, Ayaan said up... “How did you wind up becoming so friendly with him?” He wondered aloud, He wondered aloud, Actually, he wasn't just inquiring. He was accusing me of something. “He is a friend of mine,” I said softly and glanced down. He has no authority to accuse me... “I know he's one of your friends. I'm curious as to how he got to be such a wonderful friend to you.” he inquired, emphasizing the term "wonderful." I looked Ayaan in the eyes and stated, "I've known him for more than four years." I was simply curious as to how he would respond to it. So... What I said is not entirely false either. “Four years...” he said again, startlingly... He was definitely taken aback when he heard that. “Four years...”   I stated. “How the f**k did you meet him four years ago? He is not even living here. ” Ayaan screamed fiercely. This guy is really insane. He's digging at something he shouldn't be looking at in the first place. “Ayaan, I told you the truth... But I'm not sure why you're so concerned about it. ” I screamed angrily. “Why am I so concerned about it?” he said, approaching me and peering intently into my eyes. “You may have known him for four years, but I'm willing to bet you have no idea who he really is. He isn't the man he portrays himself to be. He never friends someone without a reason... He then replied, "You should stop talking to him." “I'm not sure what your problem with Adrian is. That isn't anything I'm interested in. Adrian, on the other hand, is only a friend of mine, and I do not wish for you to award him a character certificate."  I'm not sure where I got the confidence to speak to him like way. “Ayaan, who am I to you? We're not even friends. I'm just a girl who is constantly bullied by you and your pals. So I don't believe you need to be concerned about my friends. You should be the one who is the happiest if I get into any type of problem. Because you despise me so much... For a long time, I believe I was drowning in this frustration. Ayaan made me feel intimidated. I didn't have the courage to respond to him. Today, though, it was different. I was enraged by his attempts to impose control over my life. However, I definitely saw his eyelids closed in pain as a result of my words... “Do you think I despise you?” he questioned, staring me down... The weight of the emotions in his words could kill my anger and fill my heart with so much sadness... “If you don't hate me, why you treat me like s**t, Ayaan?”While tears streamed down my face, I inquired... He drew further closer to me, his palms resting on each side of my face, causing my entire body to shake... His palm was so relaxing and warm... He softly wiped tears from my eyes with his thumb while looking me in the eyes... It was too much for me to handle his kindness, his soft side... I was correct... This man in front of me isn't the same Ayaan I've known all these years. He's a completely different person. “Trust me, Zuri... I've known Adrian for as long as I can remember, and he's not someone you should keep as a friend. I'm telling you this because I don't want you to get into any sort of trouble. I know you're probably wondering why I'm so concerned about this after everything I've put you through... ” He took a breath and looked down... Ayaan... Please don't stop... Please keep going... I've been waiting for this moment since I first met you... He stayed quiet for a few seconds longer, making me nervous to death. But his palms were still on my cheeks and his thumbs were slowly stroking them, bringing me to another dimension...  God! Could you possibly put the timer on hold for now? Please stop the whole world from moving. Please, please, please... Ayaan abruptly removed his hands from my face and took a step back... “It doesn't matter...” When he said that, my heart was crushed... God! You didn't listen to my prayer... “I tried to warn you about him.  It's absolutely up to you whether you listen to me or not.” He sneered and then snatched up his backpack. He then left my room and dashed down the stairs to the main area. “Ayaan!!!”  I was yelling and sprinting after him... He didn't, however, come to a halt... He didn't even swivel his head around. He made his way to the front door and attempted to open it. Our doorknob has an issue, and it's difficult to open it all at once if you're not used to doing so. In the end, it was a godsend. He was trying so hard to open the door while cursing. I could run to him before he opens the door and hold his hand… “Ayaan...  Please don’t do this to me…You were about to say something to me. Please explain why you treat me this way. What have I done to make you so enraged? Please let me know if there is anything I can do to resolve our misunderstanding. Please... I'd go to any length...” In front of him, I was practically pleading. “Would you like to know what you should do? Just let me out through this fu**ing door. Also, disregard all I said to you except about subject matters.” He barked like a monster at me. The typical Ayaan has returned, and he is furious right now. I was adamant about not dealing with him in this way. I let him out by opening the door for him.
