The silence that followed was deafening.
Caroline blinked, caught between confusion and disbelief. "Excuse me?"
"A contract marriage," I clarified, voice even. "No pressure, no wedding gowns, no roses. Just a paper. A binding legal agreement."
"For… what exactly?" Caroline asked, her voice tight now, more cautious.
"Protection," I said. "Legal rights over you means I can move you, protect you, act instantly if anything happens again. It gives me leverage in a way bodyguards can’t."
