Aaron Cole I walked into the room carrying the tray of food myself. I didn’t trust the maids to do it right. Not when it came to her. The moment I stepped inside, I knew something was wrong. Laura was curled up on the bed, her face paler than usual, her hands clutching her legs tightly under the blanket. Her breathing was uneven. The hopeful look she had yesterday was completely gone. I set the tray down on the side table and moved closer, studying her carefully. “What’s wrong?” I asked, keeping my voice calm. “Nothing… I’m fine,” she lied. Of course she lied.
