Mom and I both focused our undivided attention on Leila as she began to speak. "As I said, Hunter came to see me the day after the ambush," Leila began, her posture straightening into a professional but tense frame. "He told me he felt like I was the only person he could trust because of how I always treated Gloria. I actually felt bad for him at first; I could sense his inner turmoil. He asked me for total honesty, and that is exactly what I gave him. I told him everything I had heard and seen since Gloria first arrived at that pack."
