Chapter 4: I Finally Found Her!

1200 Words
Leonard POV I tap my fingers on my knee, as I stare out of the window blankly. I am sure the passing scenery is lovely, but it does nothing to quell my distracted thoughts. I do not want to be here. “Are you okay, man? You seem very distracted, and you are giving pissed-off vibes,” Cade, my Beta, says from the driver's seat. “I would rather be anywhere but where we are heading. Can you believe that fucker?” I ask, getting pissed off again by my own words. “I admit, it’s a d**k move, but we have to maintain decorum. And attending this Luna ceremony is vital for our relations with other packs. You don’t have to like him or what he is doing, you just have to show your face.” Cade answers and I sigh. “I know, I know. I know how to play the part,” I say and look out of the window again. Since I took over as Alpha of my pack, the Dark Silver Pack, five years ago, I have had to make many adjustments to how I view things. But what this Alpha is doing is not right. When I received the invite to a Luna ceremony at the Grey Wood Pack, I was utterly confused. I was so sure they had already crowned a Luna years ago. A human girl if I am not mistaken, and I would know if she perished. I did some snooping and found out that the Alpha has impregnated the Beta’s daughter and now plans to make her his new Luna. What about his fated mate? I thought the human was his fated mate. I was impressed when I found out he made a human, his Luna, against the wishes of his pack members. If he went through all that, why would he throw away his destined mate for a chance to get into the Alpha Council? I know that’s his end game, and it’s a pathetic, d**k move. It shows his character, and it’s a slap in the face of the Goddess. I have definitely lost any respect I may have had for his bold move back then. I am 27 years old this year and I still have not met my mate. I would give anything to meet her, and there he is, throwing away his fated mate for power. My parents and the elders of my pack have been nagging me for years to just choose a Luna to stabilize the pack. But I refuse, I am waiting for my fated mate, and no one will take her place. The closer we get to Alpha Hunter’s pack lands, the more restless my wolf gets. Our animal spirits are just that. I can feel my wolf's emotions like they are my own, and that is how we communicate. He cannot answer me, but it doesn’t stop me from communicating with him. We are one, and our emotions are very in sync. Some werewolves, even Alpha's, don't bond with their wolves. It makes them unstable and more useless in a fight. I may be a werewolf, but I also carry traces of elven blood. My great-grandmother was an elf, so I gladly accept any part of her. It also gives me an extra advantage, and it makes it easier to bind with my wolf. When we cross the border into the Grey Wood Pack, I feel my wolf’s emotions change. He is happy and excited. Excited about what? I f*****g don’t want to be here. I roll the window down for some fresh air to clear my mind, when I am hit with the sweetest scent. I sniff the air again while my wolf's emotions are all over the place. He definitely wants to be here, and after that scent just hit me, I want to be here too. What is that scent? It’s so unique and captivating. It’s like it’s calling to my soul… to my wolf… to my heart. Oh, my Goddess… Could it really be? “Why the sudden mood change?” Cade asks, snapping me out of my inner thoughts. “I changed my mind. I think tonight will end better than I ever imagined,” I answer with a smirk, making him look back at me. He rolls his eyes and shakes his head, then focuses back on driving, while i take in that calming scent. We pulled up to the gate that leads to the packhouse and Cade handed the invitation to the guards. They nod and show him where to park. I just sit back smiling, allowing that captivating scent to soothe me. I get out before him and he frowns at me. “Go ahead, I will be right there,” I told him, then nodded at my warriors that came with us. “Where the hell are you going, Leonard?” Cade asked me over mind link. Werewolves from the same pack can communicate telepathically. You just think of the person, and form the thoughts in your mind. It makes life so much easier, especially when sensitive information is involved. I look back and wink at him, making him groan, before he heads inside. I will explain it to him later. Right now, I need to go where this mouth-watering, heavenly scent is leading me. I focus on the scent, using my enhanced abilities. I bypassed all the guests loitering around without paying them any attention. The scent led me away from the pack house where the ceremony was happening. I make my way around the back, down a path that leads to another building in the distance, the scent growing stronger as it seeps into my very being, causing my entire body to thrum in anticipation. I look ahead and frown when I realize that this is probably their pack prison, judging by the guard outside, or dungeon as some may call it. It doesn’t matter, I need to find the source of that scent. I move forward, but stop in my tracks when I see a female walking towards the entrance. I adjust my eyesight so I can see who it is as I am a distance away. I had never seen her before, but judging by the woman’s regalia and jewels, she is a Luna. She could even be the new Luna. That makes more sense as none of the others would wander off without their Alpha’s presence. But if it is this Charlotte woman, what the hell is she doing at the prison and not inside at her own ceremony? The same damn prison my mate's scent is coming from. This does not feel like a coincidence at all, and the way she is sticking to the shadows tells me she is up to no good. My wolf grows restless, so I know he shares my worry. I wait until she enters, before I move closer, sticking to the shadows, moving quietly. There is only one guard to knock out, then I can see what she's up to. If that woman is in there to hurt my mate, she is going to pay. Future Luna or not.
