I just sat there, staring at my mother in absolute shock. I was starting to see her in a whole new light, and the realization shook me to my core. Coldly and calmly, she explained her plan to deflect suspicion away from herself and Charlotte. The practiced way in which she spun her story, made me realize that I never really knew my mother. Her sweet exterior hides a far more sinister interior and it saddens me. As she spoke, their chosen scapegoat quietly joined us.
