It surprised me how reluctant my mind was to finish that sentence. It hurt me to know that one day, I would have to finish it.
The doctor released me, on crutches, on condition that I had enough support from the people around me so that I could stay off my feet for at least the rest of the week. It wasn’t a hard promise to make; I still couldn’t see my ankle bones, and for sure my tortured feet didn't want me putting weight onto them.
