CHAPTER FIFTEENI didn’t sleep well that night. My dreams were full of air thick with something that was hard to see through, and when I tried to walk through it I kept getting tangled in it. Once I woke up with the sheet wrapped around my ankles. In the morning, I slept in. I barely heard Gram leave the house, probably for groceries or something. I had another dream, a kind of dozing dream, where something was trying to get through the thick air. It was a sound. My phone. I nearly fell out of bed in my rush to get to it. It might be Neil.
