Cordelia's mind raced as she searched every drawer of the desk. The large file drawer contained what looked like a rectangular metal ammo box. Cordelia asked Chief Barnes to be the one to open it as she didn't want to touch it and risk leaving fingerprints.
Chief Barnes reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a pair of nitrile disposable gloves. When he saw the surprised look on their faces, he grinned and said, "gloves, don't leave home without them." Donning the gloves, he reached in the drawer and pulled out the metal box. Lifting the hinged lid, he opened it fully to expose the contents. A box of ammo and a handgun fitted with a silencer was lying on top of photos strewn haphazardly on the bottom of the box. The photos were copies of those in the credenza safe at the office.
